This problem is dangerous and I hope no one suffers any accidents from this error code. You can be driving just like normal and the symtops just popped up, at first very rarely and it progressed; the 2002 4runner would feel like there would be no more power to the force of pressure to my foot. finally threw a code and VSC light and VSC tract light popped on along with check engine, still driveable but very slowly if i press the gas pedal all the way. When i take out the battery leads, it resets and i can drive it just fine like normal, check engine along with the other lights are gone. Threw code P1121 accelerator pedal position sensor, don't know if that will fix it but the dealer around here says its about $1500 for the part......could it be the cheaper TPS? Throttle lever assembly? Been trying to read up about it here, either the search words i used are wrong or no one here has ever had this problem. Here is what I've got so far, your input is much appreciated

Thabks again guys, supposedly this only happens on the '01 and '02 4runners....don't hold me to that tho!

I can only tell you that TPS and APPS are two different things. Your truck is throttle-by-wire and only those have an APPS. The rest of us have mechanical cable systems. I'd hit the on-line FSM at ncttora (which is 2002) and follow the diagnostic tree in there.
