P0340 code camshaft position sensor

OK searched but didn't find my anwser. Truck threw this code last September a few times, and I changed the CPS (camshaft position sensor), right before a trip to death valley. Spent 3 days trekking off road. Today after driving it to go get alignment done, it died at a stop light. Wouldn't start up right a away. It would turn over but not run. Check engine light was tripped, checked the scan gauge p0340 code. Eventually it started and I drove home, about three blocks from home threw the code again and died.
Timing belt changed 45k ago, assuming timing hasn't jumped
Anything else that could cause this code?
Need to check the resistance on the cps to see if it is within spec, don't think the sensor should go out so quickly. Have only done 2000 miles since swap, about 250 offroad
On an SC'd 3.4 this is a pain in the ass
Heading back to DV for 4 days of driving off road in a month and really don't want to break down.
Thanks Josh

Red face

Did you get the sensor from Toyota??

Cheap sensors are just that!!

Could be any place in the circuit .

rodent chewing

moisture where it shouldn`t be

dirty corroded connection

something in the ECM causing the code to trip which is a real pain to find and was the cause of all my problems

P0340 Code

Got the sensor from Autozone, "duralast" pretty good luck in the past with duralast.
Should mention this Check Engine light/stall only happened at idle in all occurrences.

How do you narrow the issue to or confirm it is the ECM?
thanks Josh

Had a brand new Napa knock sensor constantly throw codes on my 96 3.4 brand new motor, ended up buying the Toyota one next day no more CEL. Those are under the intake manifold real B word to get to!

Anyone else have an ideas? Really don't want to spend the 130+ on a denso sensor and the time to replace if I don't need to.
Thanks

I hope you get it resolved but I've learned the hard way to just spend the money on Denso sensors (and spark plugs, water pumps, etc.) The savings on aftermarket parts are not real when you end up replacing them again way too soon.
