Overheating Woes
Hi Guys-
Well, thought my cooling system was FINALLY back to normal after 4 flushes, CLR and Cascade.
Well......
It overheated today, on the hwy. I didn't let it get too hot, but I did drive at for about 3 hours with the gauge at about 3/4.
Its fine around town, but put it on the hwy with the AC on, and it just doesn't make it. It pushes all the coolant from the radiator into the overflow bottle, and I get a hot bottom, and a hot top hose. The thermostat was open when I looked at it, and as it cooled, I watched it close.
Inside the radiator from the top, its pretty rusty looking. I am gonna try to source a new radiator for a monday install.

Get a spectrum premium radiator from rock auto for $125. Also be sure to replace the cap. If the cap is weak it can allow fluid to be pushed into the recovery tank when not necessary.
Might want to also put in a new thermostat. You can get a new one from the dealer with gasket for less than $20.00 If you have allot of rust in your cooling system its a good idea to replace the stat along with the radiator.
With as cheap as radiators are these days I don't understand why people spend good time and money flushing them over and over again.

I have been to rock auto, and I also got a new stat today to install with a my radiator. I was not trying remedy a bad looking radiator, I was trying remedy brown coolant with multiple flushes. Cap is brand new and holds up to .09 they way it should.
Keep in mind that the radiator might not be pretty on the inside, but I worked for a Toyota dealership for years and only replaced radiators when they started to rot out and had not more fins near the bottom. To be honest this radiator might have lasted in MN, but here in TX when its 100f and I want AC, it just doesn't have the capacity.
Ill let you guys know how this works out.
