Oil in intake?

Well the runner was running crapy so I replaced a cracked vacume line and changed spark plugs and now it runs great! but in order to replace the plugs on the driver side I had to remove the intake, when I did and looked inside of it I saw oil in it. why is oil in there? I am assuming its not supposed to be so does anyone know what to do to fix it?
Thanks

There should not be engine oil in the intake. There will be a fine oily coating and that is normal from the point where the crankcase breather attaches toward the engine. If you see a puddle of liquid oil that is a very bad thing.

First you should carefully inspect the crankcase ventilation system. Don't just check the PCV valve but verify all the hoses are open and fee of obstructions and the same for thier connections on the cam covers.

With the engine idling you should be able to remove the large vent hose on the main air induction tube and plug the hole on the tube and there should be a lot of air sucking into the breather tube. So much so that the engine should have a very bad idle. When you put your thumb over the end of the tube there should be a very strong sucktion on it. If those two things do not happen you need to take the entire ventalation system apart and clean it and this may include the cam covers. You may have to remove them and remove the internal baffles and clean them out really well.

If the crank case ventilation system if operating poperly and free of obstructions, then the next most common cause is worn out piston rings. If the rings are worn out there can be so much blow by that it can acctually pressurize the crankcase so much it can blow oil out of the vent hose into the main air induction tube. I had that problem on a 75 Rabbit. That thing smoked so bad you would think I was filming a 007 movie...

Is it oil or "normal gunk"? It may just need a cleaning. Reference this write-up:

When I did mine, I got a LOT of gunk out of it:

it was that puddle of oil that sealed the faith of my old engine, had it just been the headgasket i might have considered fixing it. then i did a leakdown test and had air coming through the pcv hose when checking #3. i didnt quite use the term "very bad" but the mods would edit my post if i use the words i was at the time, what can i say, it was a very bad thing.
