OBD2 2000 and newer smog question

Any members in CA know if you swap the ECM with the same model year if the smog test will fail due to VIN mismatch?

I'm asking because I'm going to swap out my 2002 4Runner auto ECM for a 2002 tacoma manual ECM for a transmission swap.

I want to know prior to the sway so I don't end up not passing smog.

I have a call into BAR awaiting a call back from a referee...

Or to say it differently, has anyone ever failed SMOG test due to a VIN mismatch?

Not from a VIN mismatch, but you'll fail the visual because of the transmission swap.

As far as I know, you will need to go in for a SMOG Ref inspection after performing the transmission swap, then from that point forward, your 4Runner will be SMOGed as a 2002 Tacoma and you'll get a new firewall sticker.

It sounds like you're on the right track with a call into the ref, definitely do what they say.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know when the vehicle was SMOG'd that they also visually looked at transmission. I do have a call into the ref to get this sorted. Hopefully I hear back soon as I don't have much life left in my auto....
