Noises coming from under my 4runner

This is a long shot but I figure I will ask anyways.

When I accelerate from a stop my 4runner makes a popping noise. It makes a very similar noise when I come to a stop as if something rocked back when I accelerated and forwards when I stopped.

If I am very light on the accelerator it wont make the noise and same thing for when I am stopping.

Anyone have similar sounds? Its noticeable with the windows up and even more so when the windows are down. I am sure it can be heard from others cars too as I break/accelerate.

Thanks in advance

Have you greased your whole drive line recently?

that would be a good start. That slip yoke will take quite a bit. Grab a hold of the center u joints and see if theres any play while your under there.

Yup, Go get look at the manual, get a grease gun, and do what this link says.

Id suspect once you do that your issue will be solved.

Good luck!

I love forums and people who supply worth-while assistance. I kind of want to go check mine right now too, only because I bought it about a week ago and don't have a personal history with the vehicle.

It's a great place. My dad used to run the civilian operations out at the old air force base before it closed. My family's been up there since '78. I moved down here to Grand Rapids in '01 after helping Johnny Utah (john lawrence) re-establish the NMU men's ski team. I don't miss everything, but I sure do miss the lake and the woods.
