No reverse lights....

I was wondering since I guess that I could have had Rob's Tacoma rearrange the back of my truck... My reverse lights are not working, and there was no fuse that I could find under the dash. I replaced the bulbs before with the 55 watt ones. Any ideas? Is there a secret fuse somewhere for these guys? Thanks,

are you looking for location or size?

Sorry I can't help with location for the fuse, I have no clue where the original fuse would be. I would assume that it would be fused under the hood or under the dash, but you could always put your own fuse in-line with the power wire going to the lights. If you have 55w for each light times that by two. (110 total watts) then divide by 12 volts.(Most of the time you will have over 12 volts, this just gives a safe margin for a surge, and makes the math easy.) So you are looking at 9.2 amps (rounded up). Any fuse rated under this will blow!! Literally, the fuse will not be able to handle the power drawn from these lights. Your best bet is to go with a 15 amp fuse. A ten could work, but its pushing it. If you still need to find the location of the stock fuse(s), someone else here with that year truck might help you, or you might have to dig into a repair manual. Good Luck.

I looked for tacomas, and the power for the back-up lights on this go through the either the gauge fuse, or the cig fuse (cigarette lighter fuse, sound kind of odd.) Anyways, if this doesn't get you pointed in the right direction, try pulling out each fuse and see if any are burnt out anyways. I assume you know what a burnt fuse looks like, and it is a good time to check to see if you have some extra fuses on hand in case any others blow out in the future. (and to make sure you have a good fuse puller that works!) Good luck, this is all the info I can give you for now.

It is more than likely not the fuse, which is usually the same fuse as your gauges. And since they're working, this leads me to believe the back-up light switch is probably shot. The back-up light switch is in the transmission. I can't say for certain, but I think it is on the passenger side near the rear of the tailhousing, but before the x-fer case.

It will have two wires attached to it, one of them has 12V going to it when the ignition switch is in the "On" position. Once you find the switch, pull the connector off it and bridge the two wires, then put the tranny into reverse and see if your back-up lights work then. If they do, replace the switch.

Hope this helps.
