Thumbs up No more Grey plastic cladding on SR-5

Hey guys,

When I picked up my new 4runner yesterday, the dealership had recieved a brand new truckload of 4runners and I was told that Toyota axed the plastic cladding on the SR5 because that was one of Toyota's biggest complaints.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Maybe I can actually contribute something informative as a NooB.

Really?

Actually I wouldn't be surprised... wonder if they're gonna give me a free set of the painted cladding and bumpers hehe...

My dealer told me a month ago that the optional Appearance Package with the body-colored pieces will be phased in as standard on SR5 only for certain colors. He didn't know exactly when it would happen, but that it would be a running change during this model year. Maybe you saw the first ones. Was the Appearance Package listed as an option on the factory label?

Why would they leave it on the sport?

I love my cladding

Although IMO the color keyed piecies are more attractive, the ones with the plastic could be some of those rare collectible models 50 years down the line due to it only being produced for a few months of the first model year... ??

Well...

Well... I can't confirm it, but I can DEFINATELY confirm that the little plastic pieces are a nuisance...

Bob,

I'd love to but my wife has banned me from any car dealerships for the next 3 years

Anyways, if I break the rules, I have my camera in the truck.

My other local dealer was already painting the cladding on the SR5's but it was a $1999 option.

Can you also confirm wether the White SR5 will also get the appearance package? As of now its the only SR5 that doesent have the option for the package. I tried to order order the limited moldings for my SR5 however they dont have it in white. I would have to get another color and repaint them. If they are doing away with the plastic for sure then i would assume the white would be a matter of time.

Right now my truck is sitting in Limbo. Either see what happens or send it to the paint shop where i had it quoted for $1200.

Hello all,

I just got back from a toyota dealer here in Athens,GA, and I asked if the sport edition (03) would be getting the appearance package as well in the future, either '03 or '04. The guy called his DM and she said it would be an option for the sport edition around May-June.
I am looking to get a black sport this summer and this option makes me want one even more. Although I like the cladding, I think I'll like the other way more.
Anyway, I'm new here so hello to everyone. I've been dropping in here since Jan. researching for a 4runner and everyone seems really cool. Here's hoping I join the ranks as a 4runner owner soon.

Please also try to find out if it will be made available for the vehicles already sold. My dealer is not returning messages any more....

What happens in an independent distributor's region like yours (GST,SET) may not carry over to a factory region like the other ten nationwide. They often come up with their own, exclusive packages and this could be another one. It would make sense to offer it for all models, but I've read that the ten factory regions will keep the Tupperware on Sport models 100%.
