Newbie questions for 4runner 3rd Generation

Hello everyone great forum here and I have enjoyed reading many posts before purchasing a 98 4runner 4x2 with 91k miles last weekend. I previously owned a 84' Landcruiser and 94' 4runner and I do my own maintenance.
Here are a few questions:
I need new tires, Looking for tires that will never see snow and never go offroad.
Bug deflector: looking for a good easy to install deflector. any opinions?
Timing belt: is there a place i can inspect the belt or a way to determine if the belt has been changed?
Thanks in advance........joe

If the timing belt has been changed, there should be a sticker either on the underside of the hood or on the engine with the date and miles on it.
Tires, good question, never bought one for just riding on the road.
Bug deflector, either EGR or Lund makes good ones, go to google and do a search.

98 2.7L 4cyl has no timing Belt. its a Timing chain and it is considered non service-able. its lubricated by splash from the oil sump and requires no tuning according to toyota.

good info, but does he have the 4cyl? give us some engine info Joe.

for tires, do you want a good on road performance tire, street looks?, what size rims?, are you going with some Dubs for your beast?, or do you want some good looking off-road tires but keep it on the street? i've found tirerack.com to have good useful info on tires and they have reviews of the tires from lots of people that you can match up your driving style and conditions to help with your decision.

no idea on the bug deflector, sorry
