newbie lookin to get a rig

I'm lookin to buy a 4runner used. I'm aware of the '99-'00 highlander and the e-lock, but unfortunately I can not locate one locally and i'm not excessively interested in traveling to far. In any case I was interested in opinions of what year 4runner to buy if I was go to put on third part diff locks. Thanks in advance for the help.

Your time and money will be better spent finding a 4runner with a diff-lock on it already from what I hear. Look for limiteds, it seems a decent percentage of them had lockers. I like the 99+, they have a few refinements that the 96-98's lacked. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to buy and year 3rd gen given it had been taken care of.

What would be the difference between using ARB lockers for front and rear or Get a highlander with e-locker and then adding a front locker??

Does anyone have any good way of getting a car salesman to come down in price more than $1500. I'm looking at a 00 4runner sr5 4wd with 42k miles for 22,995 and I want to pay around 19500. Any Ideas would be much appreciated? thanks in advance.

if your serious about only paying $19500. go get pre-approved, this way you can walk on the lot with "money-in-hand" so to speak, they will make it happen, or find what you want "today" being "pre-approved" at your bank or credit union helps ALOT... I second what My99 said.

When chatting with the salesman mention paying 5 grand on extra service contracts. Then after they drop the price "change your mind" on the whole service contract thing. Or, better yet, dont buy from a dealer. That'll lower the price quite a bit.

Thanks for all your good suggestion. I actually found that on yota's corporate website they give msrp for all used certified vechiles. This will give me the edge I need. And for all others in search of a Runner here is the line http://www.buyatoyota.com/

I think I may have found the one I want but I'll like to get some input on the price I think I can get in for 1500 less then the price asked. The question is would you do it? or should I keep searching?

Man those are some HIGH prices. Hit up eBay for some better ones...also check out autotrader.com . You can search by your area on both of those. I just watched a beautiful 1999 LTD down the street from me go for $14k. The average dealer price I have been running into is $19k of an SR5 cloth w/ locker. Go private party if you can and save lots of $$$

FYI: Lockers were an option on all 96-2000 - not just highlanders.
