New Vibration

Hello! I am new here so if this has been discussed I apologize in advance.
I have a 2000 Tacoma SR5 Extended with a 3.4 & automatic tranny. I bought the truck wrecked about 3 years ago and had it repaired. It currently has 97000 miles on it and I have never had any problems with it. Over the last 2 weeks I have noticed a vibration in the gas pedal but only when the truck is moving and only at about 2000 RPM. It is not real severe but it is noticeable and getting worse. It doesn't do it when you are accelerating or when you are coasting but only when you are cruising. You can hold it at 2000 RPM when it is in park and there is no vibration. It is only when you moving which leads me to believe it is in the drive train. I got under the truck and checked all of the u-joints as well as the carrier bearing and everything seems to be nice and tight. I greased them all but it made no difference. The Taco has a 2" lift but it has been in since I bought the truck so I don't think that could be the problem. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Could it be the timing going out?
Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated cause it's got me stumped!

That does sound similar to when one of my u-joints had a chip missing out of it. That would only vibrate at highway speeds though. Does it happen at 2k in all gears, or only at a certain speed?

It seems to do it in all gears. Do you think it could be the torque converter? The tranny still seems to shift just fine. Fluid is full and looks and smells OK. It is definitely RPM related and only when it's moving but it is getting steadily worse. Guess it could be in the engine and is only noticeable when it's under a load? It's got me stumped!

I know this is my first post. But have you gone in the mud lately could be in the balancing of the tires as lost a weight on a wheel or mud inside the rim, that has caused problems on mine till I have cleaned them out.

Tire balances usually aren't rpms specific.

SittinBull:
Not pickin on you, promise. Just cerious why you went with a 2'' body lift. You can get suspension lifts for tacos for cheap. And those actually do somthin for ya. Not just looks. Always fun pulling people out that have yota's taller then mine when there frame is high centered and mines not.
Welcome to yota tech, just joshin ya.

I would check your carrier bearing. Unfortunately the best way is to unbolt it from the frame (2 bolts) and spin the housing of the bearing by hand, while the driveline is stationary, checking for roughness. Should be smooth. Mine went out some years ago and caused strange vibration in 5th around 2,000 rpms.
After that the only other rpms based vibrations I could think of would be flywheel/clutch, transmission, or (like you said) timing related. Check the simplest one first just to eliminate possibilities.

I will try the carrier bearing advise as I am sure it's in the driveline somewhere. That makes since to take it loose to check it. The timing belt is original so I will replace it later this spring. Wouldn't think it would cause the vibration unless the tensioner was getting weak? I keep leaning toward the torque converter. I have noticed a slight, for lack of a better word, "Singing" kind of noise when you let off the gas at highway speed down around the bell housing area of the floor board. Thanks for your help.
Oh, and it is a 2" suspension lift. Not a body lift.

Well ThatGuy1295, don't worry about the pickin part it don't mean nothing. I bought this truck with the lift already on there. Down in Southeast Texas if you go in the woods here you better have some kind of lift because if not you going to have water in your floor board we are kinda like Swampy down here being so close to Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico. I must have missed the part or had a Brainfart where trbboy77 said his vibration was at 2000 rpm.
