New here
Hello, my name is Noel Aviles. I am 25 years old, and am assistant parts manager at a Toyota Dealer. I have just recently purchased an 86 4runner. It's a 22RE and 5 speed. I got it for $200. It's in great shape. 167K miles. I'm a Toyota nut, and I know the passenger cars inside and out. I've owned almost every 80's RWD Toyota car. This is my 1st Toyota 4X4. I did have an 87 2WD truck before. I'm not an off road guy, but I do want to learn a lot about the truck and see what I can do with it. It is primarily my winter vehicle, I drive an 82 Corolla and an 04 RX8 the rest of the time.

The truck was 2 owner truck. The last owner owned it since 1995. He got it with 105K miles. He traded it in for a used 04 4Runner at the dealer I work at. They only offered him the $200 for it, and I quickly offered the guy the $200, he liked that I was very interested in it, and that I would give it a good home. I've been through the truck...it does need some work.
The interior needs to be cleaned, it's not too bad. I just love clean interiors.
The front seats are ripped and the driver's seat recline cable is busted.
There is the usual rust on the quarters. not bad really...I can take care of it.
It needs front brake pads
The drivers axle boot is torn
the rear shocks are limp, and I also want to fix the saggy rear. Block spacers perhaps? I only want to lift it maybe 2 inches in the rear.
the left taillamp lens is cracked
the usual leaky 22re valve cover gasket
the one thing I am intimidated by is the tailgate window. It won't go down.I hear the motor trying, but I bet the regulator and tracks are rusted like crazy. dunno if I want to touch it.
It doesn't really need it, but I am an anal person and like to change all the fluids, new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, pcv, air filter, fuel filter, t-stat, and oil filter. It also needs tiny stuff like a reverse lamp bulb, and wipers
It has been well taken care of, it had routine maintance, a new radiator, hoses, exhaust, tires, rear ebrake pivots cables and stuff. I think the clutch is original, but it shows no signs of giving up.
I will have pics tommorrow....

welcome aboard! nice find on the rig, it will do you proper and you seem to have the right ideas as to keeping it in top shape. take off the cover for the rear window and check out what it needs to get it working. more than likely, the window clip (?) will be rusted so youll have to replace that. clean it out and lube all the mechanisms in there and you should be good to go. use the search feature to find out more about the rear window or check out www.4crawler.com for further information. lets see some pix!

Thanks. Well..right now all I have added to the RX8 is a simple ball shift knob, some new tires, and a K&N air filter. One day, when it's paid off and I have enough money I will go all out with the car, suspension, turbo, light flywheel, clutch, a clutch type LSD, and more...........
If money was no object, I'd complete restore the 4runner, and maybe swap in a built 22RTE...a 1FZFE is my dream 1st gen 4runner motor, but that would take a lot of work to fit...that engine is long!! Plus there are no readily available manual trannies with those....

Welcome to the board! there's alot of invaluable information here and the "Search" feature is an unexhaustable resource,
Wait...you're an "asst. parts mngr." at a Toyota dealership and you've just purchased a "second owner 4Runner" for $200 that needs a little babying to get it all back up to speed...seems to me that the 'Runner found the perfect adoptive home.
Good luck with your tooling and have fun.

Welcome to the board Noel. You will never have enough money because modding the runner is endless. When I found this forum, my goal was to keep my new-to-me runner well maintained and give it a lot of TLC. Two months later, I have a groceries list of mods and like you are now waiting to save enough money to start crossing out the list.

haha...I was just about to post a for sale thread....I'll let it go for $275 plus shipping.
It was working flawlessly when it was removed from a 98 4Runner with about 66K miles.

Dang, if I hadn't just traded in my 2nd gen for a 3rd gen with the locking rear, then I would buy that third from you.
Nice looking rig and welcome to the board.
