new headlight bulbs?

I want to have a brighter headlight beam but i don't want to spend money on a set of sylvania silverstars just to have them burn out a couple months later. Are there any replacements that are brighter than the original OEM bulbs but have a long life? thanks

not sure about the long life but I use to run Nokya bulbs. They come in a few different options and are pretty bright. I know they are brighter than OEM, but not quite as bright as the silverstars (Had them as well). Only thing is they run higher voltage. Some people say you need to buy the higher gauged plug and play adapters but some say you don't. I never did and they worked fine. $20.00 a pair

I got almost 30 months out of my original Silverstars and I'm on 15 months on my Ultrastars so I'm happy if I see almost 3 years out of my bulbs and I do most of my driving at night but no DRLs helps keep their longevity intact.

Osram Night Breakers for 29 bucks shipped from London. Bright as hell. Last ones went 18 months and I use my lights constantly.

In my experience, Silverstars had about 6-12 month lifespan. Hardly worth the $$. I just stick with OEM/halogen bulbs. I will get some driving lights eventually, though.

I dont know what happened to everyone who had the 6-12 months on the Silverstars...

I've had my ultras for 18 months so far... still doing great...

But one thing that bothers me is that even though these have amazing light output vs OEM, they're still not so bright. I'm used to driving Mercedes all the time at work. I'd love something a lot brighter that actually compares to Mercedes without a retrofit...

once again... Hella 90/130W $8 dollars a piece.
to those who havent noticed is that the stock headlight harness usually has a 1-3v drop in voltage.. if you have not so bright lights check to see if you are getting battery voltage to your headlights if you dont have battery voltage, build or order a piggyback headlight harness.. after you do that listen to me and get the Hellas.

Hate to sound like such a tool....but what is a good source for an aftermarket/piggyback headlight harness? I am at a loss with 3 month old Sylvanias that both have burned out high beams...

What happens is folks just blame the bulb and do not look to see if there are other issues. Often enough a dirty connector causes this issue. Anyone who keeps on installing a new bulb and expects new results is not so bright...

Clean those connectors out with elec cleaner and install bulb with some dilectric grease.

Just FYI - this thread is about 8 months old.

It's awesome to see people actually searching and finding relevant threads.
Since this thread is so old, I'm cool with you starting up a new thread about where to find the headlight harness.
Do a quick search for "headlight piggyback harness" in your year model section first though, just to be sure there isn't one already.

If you end up not finding an existing thread I'd make it in the "Items Wanted" section as that will give you the most relevant attention.

Thanks again for searching!

Fink

Thanks...I really try to exhaust my options before asking...I know it's hard sometimes because often there are SEVERAL threads on the same subject, but the topic goes off on a tangent. I am still searching the Googles for my answer...it seems many other vehicle forums mention make/model specific "Hella upgrade kits" for their rides, and I am also somewhat surprised/pleased that those searches ALSO link to yotatech! I'll be sure to post any info I dig up!

Awesome!

We all really appreciate the effort you're putting into it.

Look forward to seeing what you find!
