Do I need new springs and will they make that much of a difference? I have read many times that these will not rub. It is a 99 limited with 197k all org. factory(could that be the problem)? Looking for help.

wrong back spacing on your rims maybe? i dont know to much about these years just offering a suggestion.

you might have a little rub at full lock on the frame - dont worry bout it - its not a prob.

I can't see where they would rub without being flexed. The only thing I could say is your stock springs sag under load. If you want to stay close to stock get some 1" PP springs. That should clear up your problem.

What brand and type of tires did you have on there before?

Keep in mind when going from a P tire to an LT tire that the LT tire will have deeper treads.
The tire may actually be slightly bigger than the ones you took off.

For example, the tires I had on my Tacoma stock came with 9/32nds of tread depth.
The MTZ's came with 19/32nds.

If you rub at full lock it's probably just on the frame and that's nothing to be worried since it's a smooth surface.
If you're rubbing on the fender liners or pinch weld, a little bit of trimming/grinding would solve that.

Take a pic of a tire at full lock to both directions and post that up.
Also let us know where in the turn you're rubbing.

Mine used to rub on the front valence, it sounded really bad when I was turning, and even worse when in revers, check that out first, if that's the case just take a pair of tin snips and chop it up, theres a lot of meat there and its pretty soft plastic.

Just a though, it would be a lot easier if you knew where there were rubbing.

Thanks, Yep, I had a set of P265/70's(on when I bought it). So a set of 881's and new shocks should solve my problem? As I said before I would like a little lift for mild trail riding and getting in and out of the woods when hunting (right now I rub when turning out of my drive).

You still haven't said where exactly you're rubbing.
It may be as simple as just taking a dremel and trimming your valence a little bit and maybe grinding your pinch weld a little also.

No, I guess if you really want to replace your shocks/coils then that will solve the problem.
I was thinking if you could spend 15 minutes doing a little bit of preventative trimming you could save some $$$.

I would go OME all-around, long ago it was known as the Tundra/OME lift.
I had it on my '99 and it worked well.

It's not cheap though.

Determine where you are rubbing first, my guess the fender well lining by the pinch weld or the front mudflaps.

Trim, pound, remove.

If you lift your truck those tires will look too small.

isn't the 1999 models the ones with the taller coils? there shouldn't be rubbing with 265/75r16s

or do the 1999 Limited models sit lower than the 1999 SR5 Highlander models?

If they rub now then they will rub even with a lift. That is when the spring is compressed to that point that they rub now they will still rub. When lifted you will not rub as often because the vehicle/tire positions are different. Here https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/8...31/index2.html is a thread on a 880/906 setup. You can do it for about $400. If you go 881 then you would probably want some 890 coils for the rear.

By the way. I have Tundra coils and 891 and I'm still running my stock size 265/70/16. They do look a little small but the 75s are 1" bigger and will look fine. My nex tires will be 265/75/16 or 235/85/16. I'm not a big fan of the "shove as much tire into the wheelwell as you can" theroy.

I have a 2000 limited with the same size tires and they never rubbed when it was stock even at full flex....now I have a lift so it doesnt matter but Mine never had an issue...probably just a fender rub

You guys were right, it was the extended flares on the front. Five minutes with a box cutter and not rubbing. I think I will benefit with new springs and shocks up front 197k on all org. stock is too. Probably go with 881's and 890's in rear. I have monroe sensa trac in the back , will they be ok up front? Thanks for all the input. By the way the white 86 with the canback is for sale.( in the above picture)
