Need your opinion on tire/wheel combo
In the next few months, I will be slapping some new tires on the 4Runner. I have already decided on Bridgestone Revos. However, I haven't decided on the size. I will also be replacing the rims. I've decided on the rim that I want but, again, don't know what size. The truck will be a daily driver now with very light off-road duties. So, should I go with a 17" rim and 265/70/17s (31.7") or 16" rim with 285/75/16 (33").

Well, why such a difference in tire size?
I don't know what kind of lift your running but 33s are big. You have an s/c so power isn't really that much of an issue. Mileage is (if I remember correctly) so remeber the bigger the tire, the heavier your right foot will be, not to mention gear ratio changes. They will however fill the wheel wells much better, lets hope not too well. OOH, i just reread your post... The 285s are 32s, not 33s, or thats what my dealer told me. If thats not the case, then no wonder i'm still having rubbing issues. Anyway... I say 16s why pay the extra $$ for tires later on (and now)? Thats what I did, and also. If you get tired of the wheels, or decide you want some MTs on the new wheels, you can put the Revos back on the stock wheels and have the MTs on the new wheels. My new A/Ts will be going on rock crawlers this weekend if I can get up to ATL like planned.

I vote 285s with 16" rims all the way! If you want to get noticed and be able to off-road at the same time, nothing demands attention like "Goodyear" blimps as my co-worker calls my 285s. I went up from 225s to 285s, just a TAD of difference. You don't have to buy new rims and if you just want to, you can just leave your current tires on your OEM rims and just get a new package for off-roading. Either way, go with the 285s on the 16" rims. Too many "big" rims spinning around on cars not worth $500 in my town, so I'd never get any 17" rims. Way too much bling around here as it is!

have blue what rims are you getting. depending on what wheels you are getting some look better with different styles. If you can post a pic of wheels or link to them.

Check out my superior Photoshop skills 
They are Enkei RTS rims. I want these in a 17" because, believe it or not, there is a noticable difference between the 16" and 17". The 17" looks a lot better.
I thought about keeping the stock rims and slapping on some Interco Swampers, but with a new Toyota family member arriving next week, it would be pointless. So, I am going to concentrate on the looks and roadability of the 4Runner. If I get 285s, it will be purely for appearance. They will fill the wheel wells nicely, but at what cost? Mileage? Power?
The 265/70s should handle *slightly* better than the 285s. Especially if I go crazy and install some Addcos.

I had a set of 285/75/16 Revos on order from Sears, but they were on backorder until December. So, I decided to cancel the order. I visited Performance Wheel & Tire on S. Sante Fe (I think you saw me heading that way a few weeks ago) and found those rims. The rep I spoke to said it would take about a month to have a set of 17" rims made for my truck with the backspacing I want. I will probably order the tires at the same time. Hopefully they will arrive at the same time.

Personally, I think the stock alloys you have look better. Stock '00-02 16" rims and some 265's with WLO would look sharp on there.

If I had a brand new trail only truck coming, I would pic the choice that would save the money. That, for me would mean hitting up the Revo's on stock rims in 265/75/16.
Still get a little height, still look a little beefy, but negligbile gas mileage and power hits. Need to save the cash for the Rockstomper Beadlocks, TSL's and front ARB. Or I suppose the welder and bender, but either way there needs to be some money saved.

I think the 17 look good. what back spaceing are you getting. For the street 17 will handle curves better, less tire flex. What back spaceing are you getting 4.0.

Those rims look good in that photoshop edit. And the plus is, you'll be through with the balancing issues that come from the stock Toyota rims. Good move on the tire switch, waiting until December for new tires is ridiculous.

I vote for the 16's.
Many of the newer buyers on todays market are looking for dubs. If you choose to sell it, it will be more appealing woth larger wheels. Myself, I have 17's on my 4th Gen and sometimes wish I could swap for some 15's because of airing down and use in sand and mud.
Anywho, those're my thoughts.
