Need Someone (DFW) to go with me to check out 4runner
Hey guys
if there is anyone from DFW familiar with 4x4 4runners, I would appreciate it if one of yall could go with me tomorrow to check this 97 4x4 4runner out. This is my first 4x4 toyota, and it drives much differently than my old 2wd...I know this is the nature of a 4x4, but it is much more sluggish, higher mileage, and I want someone knowledgables opinion...It has 156k, and im not totally comfortable with it. The truck is at Bankston Honda in Lewisville on 35E, just north of Vista Ridge Mall...
Please, Please, Please..I will buy your lunch or give you money for your time, but I gotta get something quick and I dont want to buy a headache tomorrow. Im gonna be out this evening, my cell is 972-672-8816

I wish I could........here is a big bump for you......good luck and if there is anything I can do let me know. Ask them if you can have your mechanics look it over and bring it down to the store. I'll be happy to look it over and make sure it is worth what they are asking. I'll be in all day Tuesday thru Saturday.

this is a link to a yahoo ad for that car...im being told that 156k is too much mileage for a 4x4 because it is the point where things begin to break if it was not properly maintained...THOUGHTS??

It looks like it is in good condition, have you gotten underneath it to see if there is any rust or dents on the frame, exhaust, axles, and drive shafts? Are all the boots (tre, cv. etc) in good condition?
I think once you are over 100,000 miles you are going to have to start thinking about things wearing out, especially if you wheel it hard. If there are no maintenance records you should think about at least having a timing belt done on it along with all the usual, fiilters and fluid changes.
Personally I think $9k is a bit high, but since it is a 4Runner you are paying for a bit more luxury, leather, wood grain dash etc. Figure that with 159k miles on you may need to start to replace suspension, etc, but if you want to wheel it you will be doing that anyway.

Offer them 7500 the worst they can say is no! That is what I do! I bought a 98 2wd limited w/ 49k for 10,500 wanted 15,000 offered 13, 000 and gave them a beat up Accord with ungodly mileage for 2500(without them seeing the vehicle) that I couldn't have sold for juck for $100.

remember most trade ins are priced 2500 to 5000 (plus) over what the dealer gave for trade

I decided I dont want and cant afford the liability of having a 4 wheel drive with high mileage. There are simply no 3rd gen 4 wheel drives available in the price range Im looking at without that type of mileage. I called the guy who was supposed to finding me one at auction all this time and asked if it would make it alot easier if it were 2wd and he was like "way easier." So, I made the decision that I dont need 4 wheel drive enough to gamble with paying to have it fixed when Im having to pay for college. I also just got fired about an hour ago from my freakin job for no real reason, and with no notice.. So im glad i didnt buy it after all... I will post up when the new 4runner gets purchased.
