Need help with rear end please.

About 1 out of 10 times when I put my truck in gear, take off it makes a jolt type noise in the rear. But this where I am really getting concerned. Today i noticed that something in the rear is diff not right. If I am coasting to a light, put clutch in and take off something is holding me back. Its like something is sticking or not releasing. I just bought this thing yesterday. It's a 87 with 84k miles on it. I changed all fluids today, diff fluid wasnt too bad. Anybody have any thoughts. I was thinking maybe the rear axle bearings are bad or may be something in the rear brakes are not releasing. I will pull the drums off this weekend.

Sounds like the drums. I had a very similar problem until I got the rear brakes adjusted. It would sometimes back out or go forward with a clunk to start. Went away after the brake adjustment.

Thanks for the advice, I will pull them off to see. The noise I am hearing is a little high pitched I think for the drums. I hope its not the gears in the chunk going bad. Now that I think about it, the e brake is very tight, so maybe the holding back problem is the shoes. I hope so.
