just wondering for any of you who have bought aftermarket tires and have measured them did they actually measure up to the true size they are supposed to be. i have heard many stories of like MT baja claws supposed to be 35x12.50 and measuring to like 33.6" x 11.8"... im sure other tires are smaller than manufacturers claim also. so what are the brand of tires that actually measure what they say or if they measure bigger thats cool also. im looking into getting some 33x12.50x15 and i want them to be true 33 inches. any help would be great - steve

i heard that the bfg at and mt's measure to the right size, can anyone confirm this. im either looking into the bfg muds or possibly the kuhmo muds just because kuhmos r great tires on lil impoerts(had a set on mine) plus they are about 100$ each for a 33 compared to the bfg muds at 145$ each.... just hoping the kuhmo is actyually a real 33 if i get it cause i need more lift on my truck. - steve

I know for sure that swampers are the true size. Some ive even heard are a little bigger.

My BFG A/T's are a 315/70R17. They measure 35.25 in diameter and 12.25 in width. That seems pretty true to size if you ask me. I was running some 33x12.5R17 Pro Comp M/T's before and they measured about 32.5" x 12.75". Remember that different wheels and different wheel widths are going to render different results. That is about the best I can do for ya...but you hit the nail on the head when you said some are larger and some are smaller, to truly investigate this scenario and compare a ton of different tires would be worth none of our time unless consumer reports was willing to pay someone a large sum of dinero. Hopefully others will chime in.

I have never seen a tire which is the true size most are very close though. Most manufacturers have the true specs of their tires on their websites. For example a 33x12.50 TSL Radial is 32.7x12.7 whereas the same size TSL is 33.7x12.4

Swampers usually measure at or over listed heights and widths.

The rest are short, but there are many things that impact that. Identical tires mounted versus unmounted, on the rig or off, wide wheel or narrow, could give thousands of different heights.

Pro-Comp and Mickey Thompson have a reputation for being short. The rest are just sort of there.

I would love to go with the 33x12.50 TSL's that measure at 33.7 but they are pretty darn pricey.... anyone ever seen them close to 140$ range each?? or where can i pikc them up for cheap...... i think becuase of the money issue i might have to just go with bfg mt's/ damn i really want those swampers :cry:

Look on the manufacturer's website... they list actual width/diameter based on a certain rim width. That's the only way to know for sure how tall/wide a tire is going to be before you buy it.

The problem with the TSL is that it is not a radial. If you are on the trail a lot they are great if you will be on the road I wouldn't reccomend them. They get flat spots when you park and do not give much control on road.

yea i know these are gonna be used mostly on road too so i prob wont end up getting them. plus the tread will wear out quick as hell. guess ill end up with the bfg's most likely.

My dad and I both have radial TSL's on our vehicles and we have both had BFG's too. For overall tire wear I don't think the BFG's lasted any longer, we have both been suprised how long the TSL's have lasted. I am debating what to get next time. The BFG's have better traction on the road, but the SS are much better off-road. They cost about the same and wear close to the same.

yea but thats the TSL Radials your talking about correct.... i have seen them for about 180-190$ each for 33x12.50x15..... on the other hand the regualr TSL i have found for 140$ each but these are not the radials so they prob wont last too long in tread life and prob are best for off road use only. what would u say?

whoops i just corrected myself by looking at national tire.. the regular tsl are 142$ each and the tsl radial are 147$. so i should get the radial if i plan to be onroad most the time correct. alos hows the nose gona be with 33's? - steve

You wanna talk about expensive...I know the Krawlers measure to the listed size and so do the IROK's but those are getting into the several hundred a piece range...:eek:

The radials aren't as good off road, but that's what I currently have on mine and they have worked great. One other consideration is the noise. The SS are loud compared to the BFG's. It bothered me for a week or so and now I am used to it.
