Need help with a 84

Hey guys, I am looking at getting a 84 4x4 p/u, and have a question with it. After about 3500 RPM it just doesn't want to pull anymore. It has a header, and a webber carb btw. Anyways, the carb is filthy, and needs to be cleaned badly, but does it sound like a good possibility that is the issue? The engine sounds really strong, no smoke, it could use a valve adjustment, but otherwise sounds great. It has 212,000 mi right now. Any ideas? Also I have the guy willing to take 1500.00 for it. Is that too high? It does have some body damage, but not much, and has a 4" front, and 2" rear lift. (The guy was going to put a V8 in it, but never did). Thanks guys!! YT ROCKS!!

Bump...Starting to worry here. Do you think the carb being cleaned might clear this right up?

if the clutch was slipping, your RPM would increase while your speed stays the same. carb could definitely cause a problem there, maybe also have the engine compression tested.

Stock there is no more power to be found above 4000. Pulls "strong" right to 4k though. I would think with a header and Weber setup it would pull strong higher than that. Tune up probably, and the timing might be way off, carb needs cleaned and adjusted, etc $1500 if the body is decent and it drives fine is great!

For $1500 that is an awesome deal IMO, and I would put money down saying that a tune up and a carb adjustment would make it run fine.
