Is my truck a 22r or 22re?
Hey, what's up. First time poster here. Question...Don't know a lot about engines. What does my 95 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 have? 22r or 22re? She has 236,000 miles on her now and been running great, until about a month ago. Seems like shes falling apart. I do know the head gasket is blown, and keeps over heating. So I'm thinking about buying a re-built engine. Found someone selling a re-built 22r & 22re for a reasonable price. My question is what does it have in it now, and what would you recommend I put in? I have a friend thats going to help me install it btw.

if it's a 2.7 then it's not either, as a 22r and 22re are 2.4 engines. And if it's a 95 "Tacoma" Then it's a 95.5 Tacoma as a 95 would still be considered a Toyota Pickup or "Hilux"
I'm not trying to flame ya, because it is a little confusing. Especially when trying to order parts. If it is fact a "Tacoma", Just a word of advise when selecting parts use 96 as your model year, I believe they are exactly the same.
And to Better answer your question your engine is a 3RZ

Wow, great way for me to make a first impression. Lol. Yeah, it's a Tacoma. Thanks for setting me straight! Done learned a lot in 24 hours. Now I just have to find a 3RZ. Or do you think that engine is worth repairing and keeping at 236,000 miles? Kind of disappointing now that I'm finding out I don't have the famous 22r.
