my sunroof is stuck

99 4Runner Limited
My sunroof will neither slide back or tilt up. I push the button and I hear the motor but the roof seems to be stuck. Is there a way to push it open or should I just have the dealer look at it??? I'd rather see if there is something I can try myself first.

The temps have been in the high 30's lately so I don't think it's frozen with rain/snow but it might be.

Possible cable problems...big$$$...1K+ if its the cables

Is your moonroof is closed(flush with roof)?

If so,you might just want to unplug motor and go without using the moonroof?

If its the cables, generally one side will try and move out of sink with the other side and jam-up..The teeth on the lagging side has a bad tooth/teeth,so the motor cannot move it....You can inspect them w/o removing moonroof assembly.. but its a tedious process....remove motor, remove glass, look up where the motor gear meets the moonroof assembly with a really strong flashlight and slowly move the cables one side at a time looking for a damaged tooth/teeth......generally if the motor moves at all the problem will be with the cable(s)...

Oh,and I believe the cables will run $200-250,but its like 8 hours of labor(headliner removal, moonroof assembly removal, disassembly of moonroof tracks),so yea, unless you can do it yourself still gonna cost some big$$
