**My Horn Starts My Car - HELP ME
Okay fellahs.
This one's crazy.
Earlier today I installed a Nautilus Horn in my Taco. I installed it and pushed the horn with the car off, and we have hornage. :p (is that a word?) Anyway, the horn blew and everything was dandy.
So I get in the truck to take a drive, and I start the car. Everything feels just as it should. Since I had just installed this horn and wanted to give it a try, I hit the horn. The starter proceeds to grind and the car almost dies. :eek: :eek: I then proceeded to pull over, and turn the car to just before grinding and hit the horn. The car starts right up. And also, the horn doesn't work when the cars on. It just cranks the starter.
Why would the horn work fine when the key is out, and in the Acc placement, but start the car while in On (as far as you can go before cranking)?
I can draw out the relay/how its wired if that would help....

yea how you wired it may help

Imagine that is a relay.
Top - 20A fuse to battery
Left - Ground
Right - Wire from old horn
Bottom - (+) on new horn
Just like the wiring diagram said on the horn. Maybe I grabbed the wrong wire to the horn? There were 2, but I got the + one.
I'll throw up a video sometime.

LMAO, that IS crazy.
Maybe you should check both wires for voltage and continuity to ground, with key on (ign), an key off, an if possible while someone presses on the horn, both key on, key off. then wire your relay accordingly.
ill be honest, i dont see how you adding a relay would interfere with the start circuit. You are doin the wiring @ the horn and not under the dash, right?

Back it up....
So, by hittin your horn (only hitting your horn alone), your truck's engine will fire up?
That is the single most rediculous thing I've ever heard. Must admit, cool though...

ROFL... I'm sorry but this is classic... sounds like a tool man thing...
on the other hand it would make a great theft deterent...
The horn on toyotas [up to 95 anyways] is actually switched through the neg. side not the positive so that might have something to do with your problem though i really can't see how the horn circuit could get crossed with the starter circuit...

That is crazy, and really funny
My family had a '87 Jetta with tons of electrical gremlins. My favorite was the horn would sometimes go off when the car was in reverse. It was kind of like the reverse beep forklifts have.

Sounds like a short to power on the supply side of the starter circuit as it will not do it until the key is in. Backtrack your wirings and make sure you did not cross any wires to the wrong circuit. Also check any screws or grounds you've put in as I've had an Impala Police vehicle that would shut the car off when the sirens were put on. After 3 weeks of searching/testing wires I found a long screw to be the cause from the power side of the siren was shorting to ground a normally open relay for the pump to close when the siren was on.
