My alarm system is ticking off the neighbors!
The factory stock alarm system on my '97 4Runner has a mind of its own. It goes off inadvertantly (maybe 1 in 10 times) as I try to lock or even sometimes unlock with the remote. I tried putting it on "valet mode" but that has not really helped. I know the sytem is getting old as the peep/double peep when you lock/unlock the vehicle does not sound anymore and you have to be w/in 20 feet for the remote to work even with a new battery. The fact is that I live in a very safe neighborhood, and there are much prettier pickens at the mall than my faded 200k mile 4Runner. All the alarm does is tick off the neighbors and others near me when it goes off. Any ideas on how to fix this or just permanently disable it while leaving the remote entry in tact?

go to www.4runners.org
Bob has put a manual on there. Try to reduce the sensitivity on the alarm.
