Mounting a Cobra WXSTII CB
Hi. I have just mounted a Cobra 18 WX ST II CB in my 95 4Runner and have encountered two problems. This seems to be a common CB in a 4Runner, so I guess maybe I'm not alone...
When the CB is mounted in the lower pocket, there is not quite enough room
behind it to accommodate the coax cable faster. It butts up
against a white plastic housing behind the radio. I installed a right-angle
adaptor, but the radio is still not quite flush in front, even when I jam it in. Any suggestions? Remount the coax mount male on the radio itself, to the left or right?
Also, the two steel Toyota radio mounting brackets (L and R) do not match the mount points on the radio. I ended up duct-taping the radio to the stero
above, which is a pretty embarassing solution. Any thoughts on how to mount this radio to metal?

Get a 90 degree elbow... it will change the direction of the coax to the side... should be avail at any CB shop.

Yes, I have the elbow adaptor, and there still is not enough room by about 1/4"-1/2".

As for the stock mounting brackets, I plan to drill a hole in the side of my CB which I hope to install this weekend.
Has anyone gott the 18 to mount flush in a 2nd gen?

No. I've got mine mounted there.
You're right... it doesn't fit. I'm not sure what that white plastic is in the back... perhaps a heat duct to the center dash/windshield vents??? Anyways, take a heat gun and warm it up just enough so the plastic softens up some. Then make a small indentation where the 90degree coax fitting would be.
Personally, if that 1/4" isn't good enough for you and you want this thing to be perfect, you need a new CB, or you need to move the one you've got.

Lets Hear Another One For Duct Tape!
I did the same thing in my brothers acura, i installed his stereo for him and there were no brackets to mount anything so i added some balsa wood and duct tape! the stuff is the greatest! everything is fine with no rattles but i sure hope the balsa wood doesnt catch fire!!! :pat:
