More Bumper rot
Hi people this is my first thread and i can see theres a wealth of knowledge here so.. I just bought my first toyota, a 99 sr5 4runner. the bumpers are crumbling and I I want to replace them with flat black ones from the limited version, as certifit said sr5 bumpers arn't made in black. (and im scared of buying more chrome). What can I do?

the flat black bumpers you are referring to are base bumpers. an upgrade from that would be to chrome (like on the sr5) or painted to match if you have a limited. but not all limited models came with the painted bumpers. the bumpers you want should be a direct bolt on. 96-02 4runners have the same rear bumper, just the front bumper changed in 99.

Ok great so black bumpers for a limited or a base model will fit? Do you know if the mounting bolts crumble during disassembly, like should I be getting new brackets nuts and bolts along with new bumpers?

yes, all rear bumpers should be interchangeable. when i replaced my bumpers, all the brackets came welded on the bumpers themselves. i just needed to get new nuts and bolts which you can pick up at any hardware store

I just saw this. At least on a '99, the limited end caps on the rear are an inch or two shorter than the SR5 chrome caps because the caps dead end against the flare and the SR5 ones go all the way to the wheel well. I don't know about the base model. I'd like to know if anybody has actually done this and how it looked.

Well I didn't do the endcaps but i installed the rear center bumper and front bumper from the limited model. I like it better than the crome (even without the rust holes) I'm gonna try and paint the chrome end caps to match
