Question More 22RE Problems

OK, I replaced the headgasket and radator and the truck wouldnt run, after retiming it and changing the intake manifold gasket, she runs!.
Now I hear a pinging noise coming from cyclender #4 and its overheating everyonce in a while. Also It takes some time to turn over.
I do have a gas line leak that ive order the part for. Any ideas what is causing these systoms? Could it be from the leaking gas leaning it out a bit?

Thanks

Make sure the valves are adjusted correct. Purge air from cooling system.

Pull the radiator cap. Start the truck and let it run 'til it's all "warmed" up. This should get all the air out of of the system.

As arnold said, also make sure your heater controls are on hot. The long crank time to start could be a bit off time, or as duffdog you might be a bit off on the install of the distributor. Make sure engine is at TDC pull the dis. cap and make sure it is pointing @ first plug wire contact.
Good luck and happy wrenching

I used a timing light and shes dead @ 5bdc

i think it might be the thermostat because it only overheats in the first 10 minutes for driving. Then it cools and you can romp on it and it wont overheat

An air bubble can get trapped just below the t-stat. This prevents the t-stat from 'sensing' the true coolant temp. Are you using a oem t-stat? Before you replace it, pull the top hose and t-stat housing. Fill the 'port' in the intake manifold with coolant as well as the top hose. Put heater on hot and run the engine with cap off until nor. op. temp. some air should bubble out. Put cap on with engine hot. make sure there is coolant in reservoir so when it cools it doesn't draw in air.

Changes the thermostat (5 bucks) and it hasn't overheated since
