Exclamation Maybe somthing wrong with VSC????

ok so when i got off work today i put it in 4wd unlocked to drive for 10 miles a month like ur suppose to do..

sooooo whenever i came to a stop at a light or stop sign and pressed on the gas to get going the vsc light would go on.This happen to me at least 6 times driving home..the conditions were dry..one time i was turning onto a busy street and when i pressed on the gas the car barley moved i pressed down really hard on the gas and it took about 5 seconds to get the car moving. i hope nothing seriouse is wrong with the 4wd.

anyone ever had this happen to them?/ or have any ideas why this would happen???

teh answer is yes

or have any ideas why this would happen???

oh there are 120 specific conditions that can cause this. where to start, eh ?

teh problem is likely nothing at all wrong with the drivetrain. vsc will crap out
if any other ecu controlled system is out of spec.
so your best bet is a full computer diag from a dealer. it will save trouble
in the long run to get it done.

Funny, you asked this very question exactly one year ago on another 4Runner Forum! Were the answers not sufficent then?
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...threadid=30302

Anyway, I said it then and I'll say it again:

WHAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING IS THE NATURE OF VSC. YOUR 4RUNNER IS FINE.

This is the main complaint most, if not all owners have w/ their vsc equipped 4Runners. The computer senses the slightest bit of wheel spin (even though you may not feel any at all) and it tries to compensate by slowing the entire vehicle down. Since you're accelerating from a dead stop, the system slows you down to a crawl.

If you want to keep this from happening in the future while driving around town in 4HI, do the Andy Mod. It disables trac & vsc with the flip of a switch.

Oh oh my favorite is the O2 sensor. WTF you might say? But yes my friend the O2 sensor will set the VSC light off as well as the CEL (check engine light).

Can you check it? well typically not unless the CEL has lit up. If that IS the case take you truck to local auto parts rent the OB2 scanner and see what the code is. If this IS NOT the case pop the hood disconnect your NEG (-) battery terminal for 2 minutes then reconnect drive around and see if it happens again.

Cough Cough and the ABS (my least favorite side effect).

Correct, the andy mod does disable abs when it is activated...therefore, I would not recommend driving around town all the time with the switch activated.

However, the andy mod is a life saver offroad. Saved me plenty of times.

Well said! I flipped my TRAC OFF switch right before driving onto the loose sand at Assateague last weekend. It's great to have a 'simple' 4WD system when needed.

Yep the whole reason I did the mod was because I was on the side of the interstate doing some work and pulled off a little to far into some soft marsh grass. It was over for the 4Runner w/o the ability to spin we weren't going anywhere. Had to get my work truck to come winch me out.
