Magnaflow 24" question... Tstango?

I know...look at Coreys site and I did. It is still tough to determine how loud they are when comparing.
Question is, I need a new muffler and I don't want it much louder than stock. A deeper tone is fine but I don't want that rap at higher rpm's. I also do not want that resonator tip for two reasons. One I don't like the way it looks and two, I am doing this myself so I need a basic cut out the old muffler, weld in the new. It seems like most people think the dynomax is the most quiet of the bunch but that seems to be with a resonator added. I noticed Tstango took out the magnaflow 18 and replaced with a 24. I assume the bigger, the more quiet. Can anyone give me some input on the Magnaflow 24"? OR is the dynomax the most quiet even without the resonator? My choices now without the resonator are the Dynomax, 24 Magna, or Flowmaster 50 SUV. Help please before I start cutting !!
Sorry for beating this issue to death but I 'm trying to avoid the resonator issue due to funds(everthing I own seems to be breaking). If I can't, I want an in-line resonator like what flowmaster makes but it will cost me because I will need a shop to do it.

EDIT!
OK after more reading and finally getting what I want out of the seach. I have narrowed it down to two but with one big question.
Tstago's setup or Mkools 18" SS oval can magnaflow. I don't thgink I will go wrong with either BUT what size is my exhaust? Do 3rds have different size exhaust tubes? I measured the tail pipe and it was 2.5 but some say 3rds are 2 1/4? What are 3rds 2 1/4 in- 2.5 out?
Thanks all

lb,

tsango sold his 18" magnaflow to Tdiddy (the artist formerly known as "mertztr"). I rode with tom on sevearl occassions and the interior noise is not loud at all. in fact, it was relatively as quiet as stock. maybe a tiny, tiny bit over.

i personally had a dynomax w/ the monza pacesetter tip. it was good but the problem was the 'whistling' sound at WOT. personally, the 18" magnaflow is the better of the two and the magnaflow does not require a tip.

I am really happy with the 24" Magnaflow. The sound is throaty but doesn't drone at all like the shorter one did. I don't know how to compare with the flowmaster and dynomax other than the magnaflow is the only one with a straight thru flow. No restriction at all. If you do decide to go with magnaflow, I highly recommend the longer model. For pipe size I went with the 2.5 " one. I think the Stock exhaust is closer to 2 3/8" so I was able to sleave/adapt it with pieces of 2.5" straight pipe which slipped over the stock pipe and slipped into the inlet/outlet of the muffler. After I installed it with clamps, I had someone weld it all together to make a good seal.
I might have a short video clip at home that I can link to tonight if you want to hear it in action.

Bob,
So you rode with him with the 18" or the newer 24 ? Do you know why he changed?

Ha ha,
Actually I didn't sell mine to mertztr but I remember talking with him about it. I think my original Magnaflow was actually the 14" one and it droned like crazy.
When I had the shorty Magnaflow, I once drove 40 miles with the tailgate open because I was moving a long couch. That was a loud and annoying trip.

I think I will go with the 24.
Thanks all! You probably just saved me some grief!
Tim do you have the part# handy? Sounds like I will be doing what you did with the install.

No problem. I don't have the part# handy now but I do have it on the box at home. I'll post it later. Now remember this is a looong muffler and it will just barely fit. You are going to have to get crafty with a hanger too. The guy who welded my set up together made a simple hanger that did the trick. I might have to snap a picture for you.

A pic would be very helpful if you get to it. No rush though. I plan on doing this after I fix my acura... that is if the 4runner muff lasts a few weeks. I have 3 issues to fix with the acura and with my luck, who knows whats next!

lb,

eh, whoops! well i know someone sold their 18" magnaflow to tom!

yes, tom had the 18" magnaflow. it sounded just fine and it was not annoying at all.

tstango brought up another oft discussed and debated issue: 2.25" vs. 2.5". i still dont know which one to buy!

The part # for the 24" body Magnaflow with 2 1/2" offset inlet/outlet is 12286. That's the one WITHOUT the polished finish. I think it's aluminized or something. I can't get a picture right now since it is dark and the digital camera is no where to be found (think my bro took it). Still working on getting that video clip posted. Stayed tuned....

Here is the only other decent clip (other than the audio file on Corey's site) that I have where you can hear the exhaust. The flowing water makes a lot of noise so you have to turn the volume up. I wish I had a better one with more acceleration. The guy who filmed that clip for me (a jeep owner) actually complimented me on my exhaust and asked what it was shortly after that crossing.

TS, just listened to your video, and it sounds pretty much like my 14" one, which is 18" overalll including the two 2" inlet & outlet tubes.

1.3 mb video

Corey,
That 14" inch model seems to be a really good match for your rig. When I had the 14 "er it was the one with 2 1/2" inlet and outlet. I don't know how much that contributed to the level of sound but IMO it was too much with the 3.4L

The .25" difference could make the tone lower on yours than on mine, which could make the one had to seem like it was droning.
I don't get that effect, only a nice sweet low tone.

I did learn one thing though from a member here.
Don't use a rolled tip.
My tip has the rolled edge at the end, and when you goose it going up a hill, it can make a spitting sound, but only if the throttle is nailed.

One day when I get inclined, I'll have my tip replaced.
