looking at an 85, but it runs rich

not my truck (edit: YET), but something i might go look at soon. its about 3 hours away, so i havnt been able to scout it out yet. 85 truck 4x4 with a 4" lift and 33x12.50s. the guy says the body has some rust but the frame is ok. asking $500. it needs a new brake master cylinder but he is including a 87 2wd for parts, and he says i can get it off that. the only other problem he mentioned was that it runs a little rich and he doesn't know why... so anyone know how to fix that problem? does it even need to be fixed?

... how easy would it be to change it from carborated over to EFI?

ill try and take some pics when i look at it. seems like a good deal, two trucks for 500 bucks. the 85 just needs a little work and it would be a great trail rig.

thanks in advance for replies.

If it runs rich only during warmup, then it's probably the AAP diaphram.
Easy to replace, about $40 at dealer.
You could rebuild the brake master cyl in the 4x4 and have both trucks to drive cheep!
I say pick them both up. Should be fun

Todd - he said it runs good when its cold out, but once it gets warm it runs rich.
I think I can swap brake cylinders, but I'm not sure about rebuilding one. btw, the 87 does not run. not sure what it needs though.

Why can't I find deals like this?
Im not sure how much of a deal it is yet. It could be a P.O.S..

...got any more feedback on the running rich problem? anyone?

I'd look for vacuum leaks probably.
Either that or EGR/smog pump issues. I'm about to finish disabling my "smog pump". Just have to wait until this weekend so I have some time to do it.
Or, make it easy on yourself and swap in a Weber carb. (need a fuel pressure regulator though).
Not sure if there's a difference in the brake master cyl's or not. I don't think so, but you could check part numbers/etc. to be sure.
Would be interesting to konw why the 2wd isn't running.

Hell, for a deal liek that, you would not only get two trucks, but a SFA, and a 4" lift kit...seems like those alone are worth more than $500.
Sorry you didn't get it
