Limited slip options

Wow its been forever since I've been on here. I've since purchased a 2014 Tundra crewmax and I love it!

Now that I have a dedicated street queen it's time to get a little more serious with the 4runner. I've researched google, here, and other forums high and low. I am now ready for traction in the 4runner. I do NOT want a spool,e-locker, or ARB locker period! I'm looking at limited slips. Please do not give me the spell about the earlier. I know what I want just not how to go about it.

I've looked at the Detroit trutrac most specifically. Those of you running it or similar give me your take on it. It's mostly going to be hunting/fishing roads so nothing hardcore. I'm debating if I want to do the front first instead of rears. Yes I still have ADD hubs. My concern is with it being ADD hubs, will it affect anything negatively? This is not a daily driver but will be driven on road to the places I want to get to. TIA

Question I am curious about L.S. on teh front axle myself.

Free bump.

I would think you could not do it w/ the ADD as the driver's side (?) is always in communication with the diff even when not in 4 wheel drive so that a limited slip would constantly be trying to actuate, but ...

That may be all wet.

Why no e-locker, BTW ? Assuming you are referring to the rear .

Good Luck !

Britt

From Google searches I've found a few people who have done it on ADD or converted to manual hubs (I assume Downey before they went out). The left pulling is a question mark. Some did and others didn't.

The reason I don't want to retrofit an e locker is the price. I can do the install myself with the help of another tech with the setup.

From what i have heard with the true track, is everyone who has them regrets it and wishes they just got a full locker instead of limited slip. That is my experience from talking to people with them, but maybe they do more hardcore stuff than you plan on doing.

I don't like elockers personally and dont plan on buying one. I am however a huge fan of arb lockers and that is my 1st choice in lockers. My new truck has aussie lockers front and rear, i will swap them out for an arb eventually!

Well I thought I'd update this for others in the future. I went with a lock rite locker. I know I didn't want an actual locker but am glad I did. My 4runner isn't a daily driver as much but the locker does take some getting used to. It does ratchet abs even with higher weight gear oil still clicks with the windows up. I actually don't mind it myself but if it were a DD then it might annoy you. Regardless of the other forum you read, you will need to have the backlash set up by sometime with the skill and tools.
