Lights, Pliers, and Rally

Here’s a “now” funny little story I have to tell……..

Last week I installed my H4 headlights and Hella 500 driving lights on my Tacoma, I sure had missed having good lighting. I had H4’s and the Hella’s on my 85 but I didn’t have time to remove the H4’s when I sold it. Oh well, I get them on and my wife and I drive up last weekend to work the Rally races out on the western coast of the Olympic Peninsula…..in the middle of nowhere. We drive 150 miles up there, then roughly 15 miles on gravel logging roads and then back to the hotel for the night. The next day we start driving and get about 50 miles or so and I stop to take a picture. Start back up again and go to change into 3rd gear and the tach/engine revs up to like 3,000rpms! So I pull over and switch it off…fire it back up again and it idles fine. Take off and go to change into 3rd again and it revs even higher, up to 4,000 or so. I immediately switch it off, coast to the side of the road and pop the hood. Look around a little bit and find my needle nose pliers wedged into the throttle cable pulley I kind of smile and pull the pliers out and all is well. My wife laughs like crazy and say’s something like…..”It’s a good thing you’re not a Surgeon”. I can’t believe they road on top of the intake manifold for four days and over 250 miles before they slid anywhere. I even double-checked the engine bay for leftover tools when I finished the lights, but it was getting dark by then, but still. Lucky Lucky Lucky!!!

We made it with no other issues and had a blast working the rally.

Here’s a quick pic of my Taco, I'll post a larger pic when I can get to photobucket at home, they block it at work .
