Lift is on, new wheels/tires (painted black), something is not right...(pics)

...I can't put my finger on it but it just doesn't look right. 265/70r17 Toyo ATs and it barely sits higher then on the 255/85r16 Open Country AT and thats with OME 2" lift. Tried 1.5" spacers and it looked terrible. Wonder if I just need either a more aggressive tire or a bigger tire (285/70 or 255/75) or both? Suggestions?

ya, I need to wash it...rims are just Plasti Diped, still need to put center caps back in but can't decide on color of BBS insert.

My $0.02? You've got a lot of different shades of black going on and I think a good wash+wax might clear some of that up. I also think it might look better with the white out on the tires in order to break it up a bit more - or at least give the tires a good scrub so they're not hued with brown.

Bigger tires (or maybe just more aggressive AT's) will match the aggressive stance of the lift better, but I think it looks good like it is...

All in all, you've got a great looking rig!

Stance looks good though

Thanks.... I hear ya on the detail, it needs to be done. I'll post new pics after a good wash! And, maybe post up looking for suggestions on a good aggressive AT or a quiet hwy friendly MT in 265/70 and 285/70....

Looks good fish0281 is right something with a little more of an aggressive tread design could help you achieve the look your after. Pro comp xtreame all terrain is a good design or good ol' bfg a/t's seems to be the most popular all terrain design just to name a couple.

I honestly think you need more sidewall profile. e.i. a bigger tire. You went to a bigger tire but you also increased the wheel size, taking away from the larger profile.

I can't honestly say because I have little idea about 16" wheels, and even less about 17" wheels. I would suggest finding some sort of tire size calculator/converter and do a little playing around. I also agree with what was said earlier about a more aggressive tread. That alone would almost do exactly what you are looking for with the lift. BTW, I do really like those wheels on your 4runner. Do you understand what I was saying about canceling out the bigger profile with your bigger wheels? If not I would suggest learning a little bit more about how what the different numbers in the tire size mean. It is basically a ratio. But like I said I am limited in my knowledge because I have 15" wheels and my tires are always measured in inches which is much more obvious to understand.

Thanks Andrew, I've been looking at a lot of charts which tell you the height of the different sizes and playing around with different calculators.... I need to find out all the different sizes available, then choose a size, then AT or MT and then tire based on both looks and performance...and price... I wonder if going to a 285 would require re gearing?

Rims are too big and tires not aggressive enough. 16 inch is as big as you should go. 17+ is just too much rim in my opinion. I love my goodyear wrangler duratracs on 16's.

Plus 1. Side wall to rim ratio is less now than stock or so it appears. That combined with a little extra room above it makes the tires look weak.

I like everything else. I can't wait until my kids are big enough to get in without running boards so I can pull mine off and give it a lift.

I don't know what backspace or offset those rims have, but look at 285/70/17 tires. They aren't cheap though. Try searchtempest.com to see if you can find a used set of knobbies. That'll provide you with what's missing. Otherwise, nice looking truck.

EDIT: However, with the increase in tire size, you will probably have to to a little cutting/pounding around the wheel wells to get them to fit without rubbing. But I do think the end result will look good.

Thanks...I'm looking at the Duratracs now....you are right...not cheap.

I hope no fittment/rubbing issues... I already trimmed and pounded the pinch weld when running the 255/85r16 on just 1" BL so now with the OME should be fine.

The wheels are are 17x8 BBS RD (came on some Tundras in 20" and FJ's in 17") w/ 4.76 BS and +5mm offset.

I'm still not clear on offset vs. BS. I know the stock 16x7 5 stars I had on there as well as my old LC FJ80 16x8 both had 4.5 BS but I don't know what offset. I think they were 0 offset. So I think these are sitting 1/4" closer in? So almost the same?

So really, I don't know if these sit further in the same or further out!!!

Try looking at these:

These are what I've got in 33x12.50r15:

quiet on the highway and I think they look almost as aggressive as a M/T.

Thanks for the links! Those are good prices... the 4th gen runners were different, I mean their wheels had diff bs and/or offset i think b/c of that... i'm still considering just going to a 285 so i don't have regrets and am not dissapointed... worried about re gearing though.

you dont need to worry about regearing with a 3.4... Stockwell45 is running 33x12.50 KM2s on stock gearing and he has no complaints.

i vote go to a 33 or bigger with a 17" rim... Im going to be putting 17s on my truck, but im also going with 35s or 37s.
