Lexus Oil filter for 4.7 V8

I've been trying to get the Lexus oil filter(90915-20004) for my 03' 4Runner so I can change my oil this weekend. There is a Lexus dealer near my work so I made a trip this afternoon. I gave him the part number and he told me they had them in stock for $11.00ea. I told him I would take 4 of them and he bought them to the counter. The first thing I noticed is that the box said 90915 YZZB5! I told him they weren't the correct filters that I wanted and his reply blew me away. He told me that the box was wrong and that they were really the -20004. B.S! I opened the box and the same YZZB5 part number was stamped on the filter. I really need to change my filter this weekend so I told him I only needed one but I wasn't going to give him $11.00 for it. He agreed and knocked it down to 8.95... Lexus must assume the people buying parts from them are complete idiots.. I love my Toyota's but my experiences with the dealer, service dept, and parts all SUCK! It's terrible no matter what dealer I go to. If I want the Lexus filter I'm going to have to order a case off the internet.

This is probably a stupid question, but why the "lexus" oil filter?

Re: Lexus Oil filter for 4.7 V8

I feel the same way, I wanted some Lexus filters and the guy wanted to give me Toyota filters.

They have cases of them on Ebay but I might just start using Mobil1 filters

Because it's larger and has an anti drainback valve.

OMG they are all the same

the only diffenece is the orange gasket on the oil filter. they are just made in japan....no difference

if you have a 4.7V8 or a 4.0V6 it gets a B5 filter

Your right and they don't even stock the 20004. I've been hanging around the Bobistheoilguy forum too much lately. I'm becoming obsessed with oil like the rest of those oil fetish freaks.. Well not really but I want to best protection for my 30K+ investment. I may just order the AMSOIL SD-34 filter because it's easier to get and about the same price.

Forgive me if this is repetitious but is the -20004 Lexus filter also for the V6 as well?

Kaneman23,

You should have just went to Toyota dealer to get this oil filter 90915-20004 and probably much cheaper than going to Lexus dealer. Those Lexus dealer are suckers and think that you have a lot of money to spend because you step in to their door. I drove my LX 450 their for an oil change and they are trying to charge me $75 bucks plus $10 per quart of Mobil 5W30 Synthetic oil. Guess what I did, I hauled ass and went to Toyota to get this filter which is 90915-20004 and I only paid $5.87 plus tax. Then I went to Advance auto store for the Mobil synthetic oil for $4.88 per quart. I did my own oil change on the LX 450 right there on my driveway.

My suggestion is go to your local Toy Dealer and ask them about this filter. They are the same filter they use on Land Cruisers either be 100 or 80 series. Lexus is just another Toyota with a high price. Try your Toyota dealer first, then if they don't have it, just get an Amsoil. I do remember that the YZZB5 is made in USA and the 20004 is made in Japan. The filtering media on 20004 is much better than the YZZB5. Good luck finding this 20004 filter.

Thanks for the info but I've tried 3 local dealer and none of them carry the 20004. That's why I tried the Lexus dealer and they don't have it either. Your right about their prices. They are out of their freakin minds!

Kaneman23,

I just got back from the dealer today at around 2:00 PM and talked to them about the filter. I checked it out myself because I have to change the oil on the LX 450 and I found out that the YZZB5 oil filter is Made in Japan and it superseded oil filter 20004, so basically YZZB5 is 20004. Upon further inspection and looking inside the YZZB5, the filter media is yellow/orange in color which is the same as the as the one shown here http://bananags.netfirms.com/techs/oil_filters/

Where are you located in Virginia anyway? Maybe I can hook you up to the dealer I frequently buy my parts from and they always give me 15% discounts no matter I buy. Let me know if I can help.

I'm in N.VA(Prince William Co). I visit the Hampton Roads area about 4-5 times a year but it would be a haul just to go to a yota dealer. Also I will agree that the 2 filters are similar but the YZZB5 is much smaller and I'm not sure that it has the bypass valve. The 20004 also has a much larger media area.

It's not a big deal I guess. I used the YZZB5 with 5quarts of Mobil 1 10W30 and 1.5quarts of Mobil 1 5W30 on my oil change this afternoon.

Unhappy Same problem here!

I have '03 V6 that came with the 90915-20004 filter and my dealer won't/can't get it for me.
I've posted several times on here about this filter with no response.
I found this site: http://www.irontoad.com/Merchant2/me...Code=2003gs430
that sells them online for around 7.85 ea.
I don't have any experence with this site, if anyone has please
let us know.
