Oh how i wish it would snow so i could get into fwd...My offroading entails going through corn fields haha...but i dont do that very often

yeah i'm with you on that! also my stang runs so well in the cold temps its a blast to drive, so i wouldnt mind another month of that.

It just started getting below 70 at night here in central FL - a true sign of fall. It was 66 on my way to work this morning. Chilly! Never a chance to snow. I do take the Runner up to south west VA for 2 weeks during x-mass (Abingdon). Plenty of now up there above 2500 feet. Last year I did not have any problems with the stock tires but now that I have new Goodyear ATS's and huge Lightforce's. 2 months away and counting. All this flat stuff is getting boring.

I too can't wait for snow... BUT, my truck is terrible in it. I plow the stuff and to get to the tractor is a pain... I am slipping and sliding all over the place.. I hope it is just the terrible stock tires that came on it. I am driving an 03 taco with rugged trail tires.

your best bet is to take it easy, until you understand what skidding is!
im 23, and have been driving in the snow since i first learned at 16 (thats 7 years experience, for those of you who are too lazy to do the math), and i now know what skidding can do for you, both positively and negatively.
ive swung around huge snow banks thanks to accurate skids, but ive also hit them thanks to inaccurate skids!
snow driving is fun when done slowly & safely, so just make sure youre only going as fast as you can stop!

I have a question on ABS...i have 91 Runner...when i brake hard i can feel a kind of grinding but usually its not very intense. Doesn't the grinding indicate ABS? I'm not exactly sure how it works, i know that my rear wheels do not lock and that is purposeful, correct? so that if i skid its in a straight line instead of tailing out all over the place. I guess i am most concerned with this question...Should i pump or not pump the brakes??? when it snows i think i will go out and test to see which way gives me better braking.

abs pumps your brakes for you.
so if you hold down the brake without letting up, the tire will lock and unlock, which is a much more effective way of coming to a complete stop when braking hard.
so, YES, that is ABS, NO do not pump the brakes, and DO trust it by holding down the pedal.

I agree 100% and dont be afraid to add a little weight in the rear. I know most here have 4runners which are heavier but Tacomas like mine need the weight I put in the order of 200 lbs + in the rear(I doubt runners need that kind of weight but a little couldnt hurt
) just make sure you put the weight on or slighty in front of the axle(to much weight in the far rear will give undesired results)
