Leaking coolant need help!!!!!

Well my 4runner is leaking coolant and it is pooling up under the intake. I took off the timing belt cover and through a small hole I can see about an inch of coolant. My radiator is half empty or half full if your optimistic. I hope it's not a blown head gasket. If anyone has any info about this problem It would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

on the intake??

If it is pooling up on top of the intake - it is definitely not the head gasket for sure - it is one of the hoses that carry coolant on the top of the intake - there are a couple on the Throttle body - and another or two up there if I remember properly.

Take your Throttle Body and intake plenum if necessary - and look for the bad hose..

Oh yeah - and the adapter that comes off the front of the engine that the Upper radiator hose connects to could be leaking - Look at that as well

I looked at that. The fluid is actually in the space between the motor block valley and the intake. I had to use a flashlight to see in the hole behind the timing belt cover. I also looked at the hoses and temp sensor behind the motor. There is no water in the oil, exaust is still invisible, coolant is still red and I replaced the waterpump about a year ago and it has no visible leaks.

We just had the same type problem on a 93 22RE.

Check your timing cover. Remove the water pump, in the opening, the side on the left (looking at the engine) should be smooth. If it is rough, or has a ridge, the timing chain has probably slapped into it enough to cause a leak. we used a mirror and flashlight to verify this before we pulled the cover completely off, but could visibly see the ridge. Once off, you could see light through the opening. This can be repaired at a competent welding shop, or replaced with a new one.

Had never heard of such, but check other posts as well. Good luck, hope this helps.

I talked to my brother in-law since he worked for toyota for a few years and he said that it was more than likely the intake gasket. So this weekend I will be brave and replace the intake gaskets and the plenum gasket. I needed to replace the other valve cover gasket and pcv valve any way so looks like I can get that done too. Thanks for the info on the timing chain the 3.0 has a surpintine belt though.

Well I tore off the intake and plenum today. I do have a headgasket leak so I put in back together and put water glass in the coolant system. That should seal it up for a year or so. Atleast I was able to clean all the carbon out of the system, change the PCV valve, change the injectors, install new valve cover gaskets, flush the coolant system and refill it with Waterwetter.
