Largest tire on stock 16" Rim

I'll soon have a ~2.5" of lift on my 3rd gen 4-runner, and was wondering what was the largest tire I could run with that lift on the stock Toyota 16" rims. At the moment I don't want to spend the cash on a new set of rims. I'm currently running the recommended 265/70/16's.

Thanks for in advance for any replies....

The largest recomended size I think is 265/75/16 but their are a lot of people with 285/75/16 there really isn't that much difference that you would notice I don't think. Maybe someone with 285's will chime in.

You be able to run 33s/285s without problems, but true tire sizes vary by manufacturer. You may want to double check once you decide on the actual tire. I know a lot of people are running 285 BFGs, Bridgestones and MTRs with little to no trimming/pounding. However, I've seen people run 35s on factory 16s - I suspect you could probably go as high as 39s, larger with beadlocks.

285/75's will look tall and skinny on stock wheels. it is not recommended to put that size tire on the stock 16x7" wheel, the reason is that the bead doesn't sit very securely and you stand a greater chance of rolling the tire off the wheel in some instances. anything bigger than the 265/75 you should seriously consider getting at least 16x8" wheels. you should check the tire manufacturers website for specs on the tire and size you want. they usually list the recommended wheel sizes that the tires were designed for. The 285/75's will fit on the stock wheels but you are risking ending up like one of those Explorers upside-down in a ditch somewhere. don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people that do fit them on stock wheels and haven't had problems but if money is not an issue then buy new wheels to match the tire recommended specs.
