Hey, just thought I'd post this as there doesn't seem to be many other K&N fans out there. I went and drove through some pretty deep ruts yesterday that were covered in about 6" of water and alot of thin slimy and goopy mud. Although running an open element filter and getting a good amount of mud and water into my engine compartment and air filter nothing got by, no water and the MAF is perfectly clean.



So that's why I like my K&N...plus it sounds really cool

K&N filters let quite a bit of dust through. Good for flow, but bad for filtering. I had one on my Eagle Talon Tsi and it made the inside of my intake tube dusty. Not trying to bash anyone who has one or likes them, but I would think that they are generally bad for your engine. I would not put one on a vehicle that I was going to keep for a long time

going with what you said, I'm not strying to start anything just thought I'd throw out my experiences for people...also I've never found any dust or dirt in my intake tube even after I didn't clean it for a long time.

I like my k&n too, I just have the drop in but from what I can tell it's kept stuff clean.

Did that pipe that you have in place of the intake silencer come with the k&n kit?

I've got a custom K&N intake and finally took it apart to see how my throttle valve looked, it was full of gunk. I have thought seriously about going back to stock and doing the deckplate mod or getting one of those pre-filter wraps for the filter.

Ya I have the pipe that goes in place of the ISR...thats probably why it sounds cool. Also I do plan on getting a wrap as then I won't have to clean it as often

I remeber i had a k and n drop-in in my 3.0; but it was replaced by my custom air intake; i like the custom air intake better, the intake tube is not dusty, and it sounds like a loud growl.

Same experience here. Tossed the K&N and won't run anything but a stock Toy filter now.

No prob.s with my K&N I love it! I seem to remember from the manuals though that if you spend a lot of time on dusty dirt roads they recommend that you clean and reoil it more often than you would if you stayed on pavement. When I was in consruction I did mine about twice a year and never had any dust issues. Aviator

took my k&n drop in out of my jeep because it was letting to much dust in offroad. All the seasoned off roaders told me they are junk when it comes to dusty conditions.

The box even says it filters better then dirtier it gets. They dont say when its clean if filters like crap.

dunno, i never used the fipk...

interesting enough gadgetonline.com has a dyno test of the fipk...showing extremely mild gains, then a dyno run of a modified stock box showing more then double the gains....check it out, interesting info...

I imagine my dusty results would be the same with the fipk. But I never tried it so I have no facts to back that up...

In my experience with the FIPK and open filter next to no dust gets by...everytime I clean my TB there is nothing inside the intake pipe, I can wipe it with a clean cloth and nothing will show up. I think how much time you spend when cleaning/oiling the filter comes into play...I clean mine twice if not 3 times each time then oil it once inside and out wait 45 minutes and oil it again once inside and out wait another half hour wipe any excess off the end cap and attachment piece (the non filter part of the filter) and reinstall it.
