Hi There
Just got delivery of Aisin hubs from local wreckers! Upon first inspection they are a bit rusty inside wita few little dents on the outside! Hoping that the rust is just superficial. Cant wait to get them on and see if they make a difference. Wish me luck!

What you see as rust may be some of the same reddish-brown grease I found in mine. The easiest way to clean them if you don't have a gallon of carb-cleaner is in the kitchen with some grease cutting soap like Dawn. I used an old toothbrush and each one came out sparkling in 10 mins. Make sure you dry them real well and it wouldn't hurt to spray a little WD40 inside to get rid of any water left.

I wouldn't worry about the dings on the outside as long as the dial can spin freely to engage and disengage. I used Maguiar's aluminum and mag polish on the chrome base and it came out sparkling and neutralized a lot of the corrosion I had. Use a good grease but don't pack the whole thing with it - just enough where metal contacts metal.

But most importantly congrats. This will be a great mod and only takes about 30 mins to install both sides.

Thanks Victor for your advice! I was just doing some searching for articles on rebiulding AISIN Hubs and foun what i would class as the best instructions ive seen for the procedure. I think they are from a factory manual. If people cant follow this, they shouldn't be doing it themselves! Its a PDF file so it need Adobe Acrobat to read it! Hope this helps people!

Thanks Delboy...that is pretty good reading. it says how to in my haynes manual but i like that one a lot better! it gives pictures for every step and we all like pictures!!! Right Corey? (if your reading this)

There are two articles for installing manual hubs.

As for bebuilding them, all that entails is tearing them down, cleaning, then re-greasing.
See my website and look in my mods section to a link on how to do that.

Every little helps! And a picture paints a thousand words! By the way metal22lica, i paid a lot more for them than you did! You got the bargain of the century! Was gonna paint the front black with the handle painted the same colour as my rig. A kind of metallic wine color. What colour you doin?

Looks like you are going to have some fun rebuilding and repainting the Aisin hubs. Make sure to take easy on that grease, light coat will do the job.

Well, it looks like i was being a bit premature in celebrating yesterday. After spending hte evening stripping down the hubs and cleaning every little bit, i decided to check the inner hub to see if it fit ok on my drive shaft. It was too big. The morons at the wreckers gave me 30 spline hubs instead of 26 spline which i specifically asked for. Im really P***ed off! You wouldnt mind the mistake but, the guy called me after i ordered them to verify the number of splines i needed! Murphys Law! Gimme a baseball bat someone!

Well i have good news and bad news! The bad news is that i went to the wreckers 1.5 hours drive away and he didnt even know what IFS meant. Apparently, the only toyotas that have IFS around the year of my Surf are Imports and there aint too many of them over here! Will a modern one fit?
The good news is that my 1" Body Lift Kit came while i was out at the wreckers (Thankyou Roger) and it all looks in good order. So will probably install it at the weekend. Paddys weekend! So i will have to leave the pub some time to do it! Thank for your condolences guys. I'll keep loioking for those hubs!
P.S. theyy're really easy to put together after the first one. The second took five minutes!

Delboy..dont feel bad..mine still havent arrived. but i got my maglite clips and preformed the maglite mod and it only took like 2 minutes..i will post pics later.

delboy you should be able to use any hubs from 86-95 toyota 4x4s. they are all 26 splines. did toyota put solid axles in 86 and newer trucks that they sold in europe? the ones i sold to victor from the yotatech forum were from a 1986 4x4 truck. the 30 spline ones you got over her would fit the 79-85 solid axle trucks. i got some 26 spline hubs i'd sell but the shipping would probably be expensive.

The postage would probably only cost about $30, so if they were at the right price i'd have no problem saying 'YES' to those Hubs. Just put in a 1" bosy lift and want to crank the front torsion bars but gonna wait til i have the manual hubs. I'm registered with 'PayPal' or i can arrange payment to suit you!
