Piece O' cake after you figure it out! Mileage is at a mere 750 but hooboy was that oil a tad dirty.

Helpfull tip: you don't have to remove any skid plates or pans. Right underneath the drain plug, there's a pancake size plastic pop out cover in the skid plate. All you have to do it pop it out and you got easy access to the drain plug. Use a deep 14 mm socket and your'e good to go.

When you change the oil filter (god I love the location!) Don't freak like I did if you notice the replacement filter is a tad smaller than the factory filter. I called 3 dealerships and they all said that's ok and gave me the same part number (08922-02011)

Last but not least I'm using Valvoline 5-30. I like to change my oil at 3,000 because I like to keep it fresh and it gives me a chance to look around the undercarage for leaks and whatnot. Using a synthetic every 3,000 would be too expensive imho.

You only have 750 miles and you're already changing the oil??? My dad's crate motor had really dark oil at 150mi, but he was saying that it was due to the stuff they add in to break the motor in, so would the same apply here? I've just never heard of changing oil before 1000 miles.

Changing at 750 or even at 500 won't hurt a thing.

I don't use synthetic either but I am religous about changing it as soon as it gets dark (usually about the 3-4K mi range). Many people on the board swear by the amsoil stuff and to be honest I might switch if I lived in the states but up here that stuff is WAY too expensive and not to mention tough to find.

Congrats on the new ride!

Toyota recommends 5k oil changes, I changed mine at 1000 to but just feel like I waste money, oil and created more waste for the planet.

Im gonna look into amsoil cause guys keep PM me saying they leave the oil in for 25k plus, not this board the Nissan board I go to, one guy with his frontier changes his oil every 35k.

I've changed the oil in several of my cars at 1000 and the oil look more dark in color than dirty

I changed my oil on my 2003 V6 4runner at 3000 mile. I use Chevron supreme 5 w30and that works for me. Here the best link “BOBISTHEOILGUY”if you want to learn all about motor oil.

You might want to do a search for earlier threads on the oil filter issue. The part number they gave you is not the original filter that came on your V6. The original oil filter has a part number 90915-20004, and they list for ( at my dealer ) $9.62. From other threads on this, this filter was originally designed for the Lexus V8 engine, and according to others who have done research, is a much better filter. The one they sold you will work, but according to others, it will probably not clean as well. Here is one of the links I found on this, check it out.

PS; I changed my oil at 1000, and went to Mobil 1, no problems so far at 8600.

my sister just bought a BMW 325xi, first oil change is not scheduled til' 10k. But she said she will bring it in at 4k.

On a side note: Did first oil change on tacoma at 1000 miles today with mobil1 5w-30 with 08922-02011 filter.
Was a PITA trying to get into the filter. I didnt bother removing the skid plate or peeling of the side moldings. Oil also was a tad' dirty.

Factory oil filter was slightly smaller than 08922-02011 oil filter.

Didnt know about the 90915-20004 oil filter til' today. Thx for the linky Techwrench!

I changed to Mobil 1 5W-30 at about 3500 miles. Dealer said it didn't need the change until 6,000 but I did it anyways.

I have the 3.4L 5VZ-FE V6 and am using the TRD Sport oil filter, part number 90915-SP020.

So you changed it at 1000 and now on the Mobil 1 you have 7600 miles.

90915-20004 oil filter

I know this has been beat to death on the oil filter, but if you want the 90915-20004 you can order online for 7.85 each.
http://www.irontoad.com/Merchant2/me...Code=2003gs430

I ordered 6 and shipping was about $6.80.
This was my first order from them and they shorted me 2,
E-mailed them about the error and they sent me 3.
So I think they are OK!

Not to confuse the issue any further, but I went to the dealer to buy a case of the 90915-20004 filters and they said is has been superseded by the 90915-YZZB5 which is what I purchased. It is about a 1/8 inch shorter, exact same diameter and "looks" the same. They told me Toyota is no longer making the 20004. The good news is that the YZZB5 was on sale for $3.95 each with their coupon. I figure changing every 3K, one Toyota filter is probably as good as another (well, at least I hope so). Anybody know anything about this "new" 90915-YZZB5 filter?

Tom

Edge; I should clarify that statement. I changed the oil the first time at 1,000 miles, and switched to Mobil 1. I changed oil again at about 5,500 miles, and am now at 8,600 with no problems. I expect to follow with oil changes at 5,000 mile intervals. I had tried Mobil 1 20 years ago in a new Chevy K-10 pickup, and had
less than satisfactory results, and have been hesitant to try it again. But I am hoping that with inprovements in Mobil 1 and Toyota engine technology, I will have a better experience this time around.

Oh and By the way... this 90915-YZZB5 is, I believe, the oil filter for the V8 as well.
