Just another airbox mod question
Greetings,
I have read many threads concerning intake mods and I have to ask this question. First, I have a 97 Runner and after looking at the deck plate ideas and all I was just wondering if just leaving the filter access door flap on top of the air box open doesn't do the same thing as far as increased air flow.
The filter seems to be held in place securely wether the flap is open or not.
So, what is your take on the idea? Let me know if I missed something in my assessment of the setup.
Thanks,
Graywoulf

First off, welcome to the site. While opening the door will have the same effect as the deckplate mod, the filter may seem secure, but without the door holding the filter in place, the filter may come loose and the dirt and whatnot may pass through without getting filtered first. By doing the deckplate mod it is easily reversible, open it up when you feel like and close it up when ya don't. It's an easy mod with much benefit. Conversely, you can do the elbow mod with the same HP gains. In the end, the choice is yours.
