Jumping Temp Gauge

I posted this on 4x4Wire a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't get much of a response. Want to see if I can get lucky here. My Temp gaue has gone crazy, it is fine until my engine gets to its normal operating temp. Once it gets there it jumps up and down constantly. It never goes hot, just from normal temperature down to completely cold, then back up. Any ideas? Is it a single gauge or is it part of a cluster?
Thanks

Mine does almost the same thing. I find that if I wiggle the wire to the temp sender it works fine for about a week--just been too lazy to try to fix it.

My '87 did that for a while too. I put in a new temp. sending unit and used di-electric grease on the wire connection and its been golden since.

It could just be dirt in the female connector part. Try WD-40 in it, let it sit a minute, hit it with that canned air keyboard duster stuff and clean all around the base of the sender. It may be short circuting or not connecting intermitently.

When the wire is fully grounded the gauge will top out. When the wire has no current it will not register any temp.
