Jardine Catback Installed
Over the weekend, I took some time to install the Jardine #89218 catback exhaust system. Overall, it went pretty smoothly, although it took a torch to remove the catalytic converter bolts. I still have some modding to do because the pipe coming out of the muffler is too long and is causing the tailpipe to hit the underside of the body above the axle. If I cut about .5" off, it should be just right and not hit. We'll see how that goes (it's always a pain to take things apart again)!
At idle, the sound is just a little louder than stock, but much deeper. When you get on it, things get much louder. You can really hear the exhaust through the 3.5" tip. Overall, I'm pleased with the system. If you like things fairly loud, it's the way to go. A smaller tip might quiet things down a bit. Hit me up if you have any questions! Now on to the pics...

I looked at the Jardine for my dads Dcab taco, since I got a hell of a deal on the stainless version. I couldn't believe how much louder it was compared to the TRD exhaust on my Dcab.
It was on my dads truck for 2 days before we put the stock one back on and ordered a TRD exhaust.

My initial impression is that the Jardine is plenty loud for my taste...not over the top loud, but pretty close. It sounds unbelievably deep and isn't at all ricey, even at full throttle. The wife-o-meter is hovering dangerously close to the disapprove side of the gauge. LOL! I haven't heard the TRD to compare, but I can't imagine it being much louder.
Performance wise, low end is unchanged. About 2500 rpm and above, it just screams! Combined with the S&B intake, my Runner eats rpm's like they're going out of style! The exhaust made a BIG difference in the power department. I'll post some mpg info after I've run a few tanks through.
The Doug Thorley catalog is wrong on our applications. Part number 89218 is for dual cat 4Runners. The catalog shows a single outlet drivers side, side exit. Obviously, it's a single outlet passenger side rear exit. I think the tip and exit style look sweet.
I got mine directly from Doug Thorley. Call 951-371-1744 and talk with Nick Thompson. He's now up to speed on the 4Runner applications and will give you an awesome deal.

Is there a performance bolt cat back system that keeps things on the quiet side?
I would rather not listen to that niose on 600 mile trips to offroad 50 miles.
My buddy has a performance system on his Denali and holy cow it sounds great but every press of the gas is heard loudly in the cab.

The 4th generation 4-runners have the exhaust exit the rear. Only problem is that when you put the back window down while driving the fumes are overwhelming... Not Cool!

The only ones I've seen for 99-02 4Runners is the Jardine or TRD catbacks, although there may be other brands out there. Seems like many here on YT run just an aftermarket muffler with a tip. That seems like a good option too.

LOL @ the wife-o-meter.
*UPDATE*
Just ordered my system from Nick (nice guy by the way). The number to reach him is actually: 1-951-739-5900.

The Jardine catback is an awesome deal! One issue I'm dealing with now is that the pipe that comes out of the rear of the muffler is a little too long. It forces the tailpipe up into the bottom of the body, above the axle. I had to take the tailpipe off and hammer it down so it wouldn't hit. I'm going to call Nick today to see if they can redo a tailpipe with a shorter rise so that I don't have the one that's beat to heck. I'll let everyone know how it turns out. I still love this system!
