Angry I've got a rattle

When accelerating, I hear this rattle coming from what seems to be the exaust(around the cat). It does it in nuetral when I rev it up and through every gear (manual tranny) as I accelerate. I'm thinking it's a heat shield rattle, but was wandering if you guys have had any of these same issues or any other ideas of what it might be. Thanks for any info. Jonathan

That's that same thing I'm getting and from searching around the site, I think mine is the catalytic converter.

I had something like that once, I go mudding a lot and I had some dirt clods up around the cat and around the muffler too. Just clean everything off down there, see if it's still there.

Ok, well it looks like i've narrowed my problem down to the heat shield then. Guess I'll have to get that checked out. Thanks for the input fellas.

Get a stainless steel clamp ~5" for $3. Wrap it tight around the heat shield and it should be good.

I Can Not Believe You Asked That Question Tonight. In Just The Last Couple Weeks My 2000 Tacoma Sr5 Has Also Developed A Rattle Coming From
What I Thought Sounded Like An Exhaust Problem.. That Is Really Nice To Know !!!!! I'll Try The Clamp Remedy Also.

The problem is probably because you go to USC!

Haha...but I did want to ask, how are those brakes and lights working?

Rattle???

Yah, like the others stated, it's the heat shield on tha cat. The band trick don't always work either. You see, what happens is that it gets caked in mud. Some falls off and some comes off when you spray underneath (you do clean underneath right?) Then, from jaring and bumping down the road, small pieces fall off and land in the heat shield. Small pieces but bigger than the holes in the shiled. Then they just rattle. Kinda like rocks in a coffee can. Squeazing the can ain't goina keep em from rattlin', follow me? I end up cutting the heat shield off all my cats with my plasma cutter. Wallah, no more rattle.
Here's a pic a few exhaust set ups ago.

Just be sure to not stop long in tall dry grass. The converter gets hot enough to ignite dry grass with direct contact. That's why the heat shields there. If I wan't lazy, I'd fab a removable heat shield. Too much work though.
