Interior Handle - question

I've got a couple of questions about the interior handles I have seen in some trucks.

1) Are they molded to the pillar or bolted on seperately?
2) Are they factory?
3) Is there one for each side?
4) What's is called specifically and/or a part number?

I just got my 4" lift and tires on, and know my wife is going to want a handle getting in as she's got a broken ankle right now (and she's short ).

See this pic for what I am talking about:

Thanks guys!

Bryan

Depends on year probably.. On my 85's they were in ceiling above the doors, same as the '90. The holes for the machine screws are in the steel, they bolt right thru the headliner fabric. They were on both sides in both the 85 and 90. They weren't in the 90, but I put em in. It was a bit of a challenge to locate the holes (new headliner fabric didn't have the old holes in it...)

In both my 2nd and 3rd gen they were screwed into the panels above the doors. On my '99 it only came with one on the drivers side so I'm going to add another one on the top of the door.

Dealer will have the part #s, don't necessarily have to get them there.

My 85 had one on the passenger side above the door and I added one above the driver's side...holes already there.

My 00 had two on the passenger side, one above the door, one on the A-pillar, and one on the d-side, one on the A-pillar, but again I added one above the door and the holes were already there.

I think the parts were less than $15 each time, but the 85 parts are getting fewer and fewer and color matching was no longer an option...just gray.

I found them at the dealership. Apparently the trucks never shipped with them, but 4Runners did. $30 per side so I just got one for my wife on the passenger side

Lotsa trucks shipped with them. Mine did originally (just never reinstalled after the interior was done - I have them but they were beat up so I got some from the guy on Yotatech classified with the 40 pickups being parted out,) and I looked at 3 or 4 trucks in the lot here at work and they all have them - or rather, the one on the pass side. That's how I figured out where to poke around for the mounting holes - looking at trucks that have em.

FYI: those things are IMPOSSIBLE to get off. ive had to destroy the handle in order to get mine off for my a-pillar gauge mod.

personally, if your wife is having difficulty getting in, i'd add the grab handle that runs above the top of the window. i've added one to each side of my 4runner and my wife (short too) always pulls herself up w/ that one instead of the a-pillar one

If you cant get the bolt loose just drill the head off the bolt and then clamp on to the remaining bolt with vise grips once you get the handle loose, get replacement bolts at the hardware store.
I found an extra handle for my rig at the salvage yard for 5bucks.

Good Luck!

My 85 didn't have even one handle anywhere. I scrounged up six handles from my local wrecking yards. I found the holes in the cab for the first two, mounted two in the removable top for the rear passengers, and mounted two on each side of the windshield on the pillars. Kind of like the one in the pic you posted. I had to add a little extra support under the plastic, but it's sturdy (they hold my fat a$$ when I climb in)

I measured my girlfriends 95 runner to find the right height on the pillar. Just make sure its strong. You don't want it to pop off when your wife is trying to climb in !!
