Interesting observation Re:Warped Rotors
So maybe it's a fluke..but I've noticed something interesting.
On my old 97 SR5, the truck left the factory with the 15" wheel brake package, and had 16" wheels installed at the port. When I got it, I threw on the cheapest rotors and pads that NAPA carried. Those rotors lasted me the entire 2 years/50k miles that I owned the truck and even with the 285's and steelies, they never warped.
On to my new 97 Limited with 16" wheels and brakes. When I picked it up the rotors were trashed. Totally warped. Having great luck the previous time around, I picked up the same cheap rotors. Fast forward 6 months and 13k miles, these rotors are horribly warped. Almost beyond tolerability. This truck has stock 265/70's.
This got me thinking. Maybe the trucks with the 15" wheel packages aren't subject to the rotors overheating and warping? Why is this? Comments?
At any rate, Brembo's are in the pipeline.

two questions.
1) Do I understand you correctly when you said that on the first truck you put new NAPA rotors and pads on it when it was brand new? if not, how many miles did the truck have on it when you installed them?
2) How many miles on the second truck when you bought it?
The reason I ask is my understanding is that a major contributor to the warped front rotors is rear brakes that are worn or mis-adjusted. I bought my 97 with 59K and the rotors didn't warp for another 20 or 30k miles. Replaced with Brembos, but also serviced and adjusted the rear brakes at the same time.

I think you may have just been lucky w/ the first truck. I had the 15" rotors before swapping for Tundra rotors and they were warped pretty bad when I got the truck less than a year ago. Not to mention that going from the 15" wheels to 16" made the braking performance on the truck really bad (e.g., took a hella long time to stop).

2) My new one had 141k miles on it when I got it.
Rear brakes have been good on both trucks.
