Insurance
Hi Im looking at picking up a 3rd Gen 4runner 4x4 w/ 3.4v6. Im going to look at a 96 today matter of fact. I was wondering what is everyone paying on average to insure these trucks? Im going to have full coverage as there will be a loan on the truck but i will have 2 cars on my policy so that should help some. Thanks for your input...

What others pay has no relation to what rates you can get, unless he lives in your town, is the same age as you and has the same driving record, marital status, homeowner or not, and usually these days - credit rating.
Shop around, all insurance companies are NOT similar! I was astounded a couple years ago when I shopped around - those companies that advertise on TV all the time? - Highest rates by a HUGE margin - every one of them. Progressive by the way was the highest - almost DOUBLE what I pay, and their "comparison quotes" were not even close to actual quotes of the companies they quoted. (I personally think they are crooks.) Turned out I could not match the rates I get from the company I've been with for 25 years - Farmers Insurance. I also have my homeowners with them. But not my boats.

Los: try one of those online insurance quote things to get a baseline and also to figure out what the average is. use it and go from there to compare it to other rates

Interestingly enough, I go through Progressive and they are about 20% cheaper than ANY other insurance provider in my area.
That said, I came VERY close to buying a 2002 Taco Dbl cab about a year ago. Insurance was goign to run me $300 per month for the taco and my 76 'Cruiser.
I figured that was legalized extortion, so I didnt' buy the taco. But Progressive was about $100 cheaper than anybody else.
The moral of the story is to shop around.

i pay 129 a month with AIG, i have an accident and a speedign ticket 2 years ago and a low credit rating, i was told in another year my rate will drop to nearly half as the insurance compainies seem to only care about the last 3 years and i build up my credit

I'm with State Farm. Mine is about $30+/month for liability, plus I have another pickup, 4-wheeler and life insurance. My total is $99/month for everything. I'm in the same boat with Gieco and Progressive. They were WAY over anything else I found. That's with no tickets or anything. I had Esurance (online company, I think underwritten by AIG) before that. The rates were very reasonable and the service was excellent, 24hr toll-free. Not bad for an online co. But when I got the atv in '02 State Farm was the only place open on Saturday morning (the bank wanted it insured before I took it home and I wanted it THAT day ) and they said they could double my coverage for less $$.

I've tried Progressive, Geico, American Family and State Farm. Progressive was by far the most expensive and I will never say a good thing about the company. Geico was OK, but none have been as good and reliable as State Farm.
