I've got a set of brand new 245/70R16s that were given to me by my dad who took them off a new truck he bought when he upsized. My '99 4Runner takes 265/70R16s. I don't care about the looks, the speedometer effects, or the "offroadability" of these smaller tires, but is there any other reason why I shouldn't put them on?

as long as you put on all 4, then no, no problems as long as you dont care about crappier offroading, a speedo thats off, and a goofy look on the driver of every vehicle you pass.

And you will be "putting on more miles" than the actual distance that you're driving. You will also notice that you're at a higher RPM, and if you're on the highway a lot, that would be kind of annoying.

But on a positive, you will notice better acceleration.

I figured there'd be a difference of 8%+/-. The new tires are 92% the size of the old ones. Driving 100 miles would register as 108. I've already got 210k. No need to shock the ol'boy at this stage with high RPMs on the highway. I think I'll sell the tires.

you're gonna be squealing around turns as they *might* be overpowered by the weight of the vehicle. I know I had that squealage when I ran that tire...dunlop at20's from tacoma takeoff wheels

It'll drive better in most every way. Acceleration will be stronger, brakes will be stronger, steering will feel quicker. I drove an F250 with 215/85/16s for a winter in Idaho, it was great unless I hit sand or mud, then it was sink-o-matic, lol.

245s will drive great on a 4runner.

Yeah i was running tundra take of wheels with an orginal size of 265/65/17

im running 245/60/17 and there great. its only 0.3% faster. no biggie.
