installed KYB monomax

Holy s#!t, it took my brother and I 5 hours last nite to install the driver strut. The first prob was compressing the spring enough to get the nut on the top of the strut. When we thought we did and decompressed the spring there wasent enough room to pull out the compressor form the top part of the spring because of the progressive rate part gets small. Then when we finally got the strut on the spring we couldnt get the bolt through the bottom part of the strut throught the A arm because the top plate wasn't lined up. So we had to take it off and start all over again because the is no way we could turn it even a little.
Today I did the rear myself, that was easy. My brother came over after and we did the front pass side in less than 40 minutes.
The stock shocks were shot. The two passanger sides were leaking oil.
As far as the the ride, I just drove it around the block. But a lot better. Will give you guys driving impression after I drive on the highway.

Sorry for the long post but I use yota tech so much for research and opinions I figure it's time to give back. Wonderful site.

A buddy over on the TTORA board helped me to put those things on awhile back. The KYBs ride like ass IMHO. After a few months I changed them to SAWs up front and Bilsteins in the rear and they ride much better now.

Waaaaaaaaaaaay too stiff. I felt every little bump, pebble or crack in the road. I'm sure for wheeling these would be fine, but definitely not for everyday driving.

I will take the stiff ride around town for the perforance they give you on the parkways and highways - at higher speeds. I commute in my 4runner and like the highway ride. I dont think there is anything out there that gives you the the 'best' produce for all situations.

I just drove my truck to work this morning and the ride is STIFF. Around town and on the highway 60-70mph. However, like gpcolen1 said, the stability is excellent. The truck feels a lot safer, the truck doesn't float around or keep bouncing up and donwn after every dip or bumb. Also breaking and accellerating is greatly imporved. Then again the old shcks were shot and not very good to beging with. I do hope they soften up a bit though. Maybe it's the rear that's hard because it's a truck not an SUV.
Would the Bilstiens have a better ride? I chose these shocks because they were a little cheaper and I don't do any off-roading. I heard thoese are stiff as well.
