Install brake controller looking for cold brake wire..94 4Runner

I have a 94 4runner. I am trying to install a brake controller. My first hurdle is to find the cold wire that goes hot when the brakes are applied. After removing the dash panel, I can see the four wire connector that is attached to the brake pedal. I read on another thread that I need the green and white wire. However, the wire is so far away that I cannot get to it. I cannot see a way I can tap into this wire since it is so far under the dash. I cannot get my head underneath to see where the wires go. I did notice that fuse box plate next to the drivers left foot. I see the fuse that states "stop" with a 15A fuse.

I tried to follow my four wire connector wire from the back of the truck, but it goes into the frame on the passenger side body frame underneath the truck. I have no clue where it goes.

How can I get to this brake wire to connect to my brake controller?

Thank you and good karma to you.

According to the wiring diagram it is the green/white wire. It goes to the brake lights and the anti-lock ecu. The fuse box won't help as the 'Stop' fuse is hot all the time.

I can send you the wiring diagram if you give me an email address.

Thank you eric. It is the green/white. However, how do I tap into it. The wires are too far in the dash to get to. I can't even get my hands in there to tap it. Is there somewhere else I can get to? Please send the diagram. I tried to find the diagram last night in my manual, but no luck. arielbanzon@yahoo.com

I think the wires to the rear lights run along the floor under the carpet along the driver side. If you remove the plastic trim on the door sill there should be a bundle of wires. I know the wires to the rear wiper/washer are there. If the brake lights aren't there try the passenger side.

I emailed you the wiring diagram and electiral component locator sections. Hopefully that helps.

Edit: email didn't go through, cheap company I work for has a size limit on attachments, I'll send it later from home

So does this mean I can hook up the brake controller cold wire to the rear lights? I am assuming from your reply that I will find the green/white wire under the passenger or driver side carpet.

Thanks Eric. Just called a place. They want $450 to hookup a brake controller.

$450, I hope they supply their own lube before they bend you over !!!!

It shouldn't matter where you connect to the green/white wire. The easiest place is near where you're putting the controller, but anywhere on the wire should work.

Cool, I found it...thanks to you Eric.

I opened the rear brake light. I stepped on the brake and watched with bulb lit up. There were four wires going into the bulb. I punctured one of the wires, green/white wire, with my new sharp pointed tester. Oh, I cliped the wire end of the tool to a non painted metal part of the car. The tool has a small light bulb in it. Well, it lit up when I push the brake pedal.

I traced the wire to the driver side. I opened the door, unscrewed the floor railing under the door. The carpet lifted up with some prying with a screwdriver. There was a plastic square tubing that had all the wires in it including the green/white wire.

I now have to pick a brake controller.

I will keep this thread updated for others to reference.

Thanks Eric
