So the prized ride has been in the shop for a while (see previous accident post) due to trouble finding parts and all that. As a result, i've been out of it / slightly down because I haven't been able to drive around as I want for about a month and a half.

So it is supposed to be out of the shop this week.

Two things I need to do (was one the list pre accident) is fix the stuck key in the ignition and seal my rear axle.

The ignition cylinder- I am looking at both of these and in all honesty I am completely lost on which is the best route.
The complete seems reasonable only for the fact that it is a complete for around the same price.

Thoughts?? Should I look elsewhere?

I'm not sure if Toyota's are sensitive w/ VATS as far as the key code combinations. Your best bet is probably call a lock smith and and have them to re-key the lock cylinder. It may even be cheaper. When I do a lock cylinder I always try to convince the customer to pay extra to have us sub out the work to a trusted clientele of mine to re-key it. The tumblers are quite aggravating and if you lose the combination at any time then goodluck trying to have a dealership just hand you the key codes by your VIN # It would also be in your best interest to have a locksmith because you will have the same tumbler codes that fit your doors.

yeah, i considered that. but I have a remote to open the doors and not completely against walking with two keys. my major issue is to avoid having to shift gears rapidly to get the key out.

I would start with just getting a new key, unless you cannot get it out of the tumbler at all.

If you can't, then just call the dealer and get a price on a new Key and Tumbler. They can usually be had fairly cheap.

spoke with a dealer last night and the approx cost is about $80 so I think I may go that route and then look into the re-key option depending on cost.
